    Is it wrong if I truly believe he will go down in history as one of the Greatest Americans Ever alongside presidents, inventors and soldiers? He's done and said more through this, his show and his Whitehouse speech than 99 percent of politicians. He is a genius.

    I love Colbert. He will be my man mistress.


    But I do have a bit of an opinion on this. I didn't appreciate the generalization that was implied in the original article. This quote, kinda bothered me: "In front of hundreds of active duty military personnel - the very personnel proponents of Don't Ask Don't Tell claim..." My husband's an active duty soldier, but automatically b/c he's in the military he's for DADT? A lot of the guys could care less about whether or not the soldier serving next to them is gay, as long as he/she got their backs it's all good. I hate when people stereotype soldiers as these stuck in the 80's homophobes. It's the asshats who are in charge of everything that need to be talked to or stereotyped, these are the people who are keeping this archaic policy in effect.

    @Imjustnotthatintoyou: I read it that way at first too, but it's "the very personnel proponents of Don't Ask Don't Tell claim require it for cohesiveness." So she was saying they are the people that DADT proponents SAY need it.

    If I may: I love this man so much -- he is a good, good man, who knows what morality truly is and brings it to every day of his insane form of absurdist comedy. Can you imagine being one of those LGBT soldiers in the audience (and you know there were some) when he went into that bit? "I'm a good soldier, damn it! And Colbert knows it!" I get chills.

    Do you know anyone who takes this man's word without any irony? I have a hardcore right wing friend (who almost always wear sweat pants) and he completly believes everything Colbert preaches. It is just bizarre when he tells me I am wrong about his whole persona being an intentional stitch. It is like telling a 5 year old that Santa Clause isn't real.

    @Little Green Frog: It could either by a female Jody, meaning that the wife is suddenly going to become a lesbian; or a male Jody which means the wife has an affair.


    Either way, it implies that the wife winds up cheating on the soldier.

    Watching this is like watching mini Wash.Hilt WHCD performances. The crowd is semi-uncomfortable. Half of them are really there because they are starved for entertainment, not because they like the guy.

    On the other hand, My BF pointed out the turn out for Colbert looks to be much larger than some of the other televised USO shows, like WWE--when you'd think it would be the other way round.
