@jeepgirl: The escalator at the mall makes my knees tremble, because I worry (irrationally) that I may suddenly fling myself over the rail in a moment of spazziness. The multi-story escalators are the worst -- y'know, when you can look down more than one floor? *shudder*

@CatherineSloper: My mom had one of those station wagons with the rear-facing seat in the trunk when I was a kid. I would insist on sitting there, even though I would have had the entire back seat to myself.

Oh good! I mean, I fear that I sound ridiculous sometimes. Or at least overzealous. Or deeply over-earnest, and my post-Watergate childhood demands that I fight against that.

But honestly, I'm a sap, and I should just admit it. Yay for a world that is better than it used to be! Say I!

(On a related note I just finished Team of Rivals [let me know what you think of it!], and dude, every time Lincoln went wandering down the street to his Secretary of State's house, I thought of our current first family and their security detail.... The man had ONE bodyguard, and that body guard had the night off when Lincoln went to Ford's Theater that night...! Had the night OFF! But I digress).

I agree! I am a bit younger than you methinks, but only a bit, and I grew up during the madness of the Reagan years. I too am a sap that is thrilled that the world is better than it used to be in some important ways!
