does anybody else really wish michelle obama would show up one day rockin a fro or some braids or some dreds.... i hate to even say it, because as a natural blonde i've rocked all three hairstyles, but i would love her to just to be like, "i'm black, i'm hot, get over it." can the media please get over the fact that the first family is black, please get over analyzing everything she wears... let the woman just be the strong politically inclined woman she is. i'm sure the guns have blogged about this eyebrow nonsense. i'm going to go look it up.

@danadevin85: I'm sure she cares to the extent that something so prima facie ridiculous could potentially interfere with her husband's ability to run the country effectively because of ignorant, prejudiced peoples' perceptions.

Do you remember that some peoples' responses to the factual declaration "Obama is not a Muslim" is "Well, I sitll think he is" -- with the underlying insinuation that "Muslim" is/was a pejorative term?

Have you forgotten the "Terrorist Fist Bump"?

I know it's a dumb post, but why are we getting upset or offended about this? It's GLAMOUR -- a fashion magazine. Scratch that, it's a "daily beauty blog" on a fashion magazine's website. It's not like they're a hard-hitting news source. And it's not like this is the first or only thing Glamour has ever had to say about Michelle O. And, yeah, her eyebrows do have a pretty seriously high and pointy arch -- my boyfriend, who is not one to really notice people's eyebrows, pointed this out to me the other day, and even he said he thought they look like "angry eyebrows." I told him to shove it because eyebrows come in all shapes and sizes. But why waste your energy getting pissed off at this?

For goodness sake, really? Is this what lack of ratings/sales-grabbing news has come to?

That said, I don't like her eyebrow shape. Shoot me. They look too "pointy" in the middle, and I'm partial to bushier/straighter eyebrows.

Back to the discussion: do eyebrows make MO an ANGRY BLACK WOMAN??? Really? Jeez, people.

@trakkie: Nah, as a journalist, I say: Fie on the headline. Headlines and captions are often all anyone reads, and they set the tone, regardless. Glamour tried to do the right thing by putting the word "angry" in quotes (and I would be willing to bet that represented a compromise between two people, one who wanted the word changed, the other [more powerful] who was only willing to slap some quotes on it to make the first happy), but it doesn't do the job. They could have gone with something differently cheeky like "Even the First Lady worries about them: Eyebrows. (Really!)"

Yeah, alright, I get that. But a ton of these comments are "racism" and "I guess it's not ok to have eyebrows if you're black." Which is really not what Glamour is saying at all and I think is kind of unfair. Yeah, Glamour's headline sucks, but this isn't really an example of them being racist or even jerky.

@ellaesther: I'm assuming that this is a blog on Glamour's site, and didn't appear in the magazine. But, either way, given the context - a fashion magazine - I think it's a strong headline (except for it being a question. I was always told to steer away from questions in headlines). It may make a more critical audience, like those of us here on Jezebel, roll our eyes, and the topic is definitely inane, but given the audience, and given the tone of the magazine, I think the headline is a strong one. Angry is a strong word.

@trakkie: I think they endorsed Obama, but beyond that, can't really say - I don't live in the US. My point was more that they are a serious, mainstream news outlet, and while Glamour can run stuff like this about Michelle Obama's eyebrows because they focus on beauty and fashion issues, I'd hope papers like the Trib would have other issues to cover.

@trakkie: Part of my job is devising titles/bylines for a magazine. Guaranteed that the headline was done this way to get more viewers. But it's not "edgy" it's just inane and belittling.

I was just pointing out that this really is NOT an issue of Glamour being racist and the responses suggest that most of the people commenting didn't read the article.

But it IS. You don't seem that familiar with the "Angry Black Woman" stereotype (not to speak of how frequently it's already been applied to the First Lady), which I find somewhat singular considering

1) the post is tagged with it, and

2) it IS addressed in the comments.

So I'm not being sarcastic. I'm suggesting that you're missing the point, either

a) because you haven't had a chance to read a little further/deeper to pick it up, or

b) deliberately.

@EkaterinaBallerina: Glamour has some ok stuff, I swear; the editors will definitely pick a bad thing or two, but on the whole it isn't really awful and they tend to have at least one interesting article per issue. Cosmo is heinous, Glamour is...trying. Dodai was interviewed in Glamour and Megan wrote for the website!
