    What in the everloving hell is this supposed to mean? Isn't "compromise, compatibility and obvious ongoing affection" a universal desire absolutely separated from any notions of race or ethnicity? Or, in lieu of that, shouldn't it be?

    there's a gorgeous black and white photo of them on the npr website, taken by the Time staff photographer assigned to Obama's campaign. baracka and michelle are sitting in a booth, they both look exhausted and she's snuggled really close under his arm, has her eyes closed, her head on his shoulder. i'm jealous of that photo!


    also i completely agree that "a partner should continue to surprise." i like not thinking i know everything about my partner, no matter how long we've been together.

    It's interesting to me that she describes herself as the shy one. I know he was the one running for president and all, but I always got the feeling he was a bit more shy than her. She has always seemed so in control, so aware, and so ready to me. I admire someone that can stake her claim and stick with it. I might be white, but Michelle Obama will be a role model to my kids.

    I will remain cautiously optimistic and hope for the best. ::Debbie Downer alert:: Many famous "ideal" couples, political or otherwise, have disappointed me before, some within the last few months, and I'm scared to love again. Putting too much hope in someone else's marriage to redefine anything is something I'm going to avoid for now.
