Really? Have they sold any of their daughters into slavery yet?

I think their support of particular right-wing movements (The Q) are problematic because of their stances on matters of public health. But why nit-pick about their personal beliefs when they don't infringe upon you? Why not address larger issues where the literal interpretations might harm millions?

It's a nice thing to have. Of course it makes it easier on those of us among the crowd who don't want kids...less pressure because there's plenty to go around.
If they weren't so damn self-righteous and proud, trying to tell others to breed like rabbits, I wouldn't find them offensive. But they hate my lifestyle, they want to make my life illegal, pretty much, so I say we pass some laws restricting the upper limit size of families. Or at least promote them, to balance out all this anti-BC propaganda.

One which offers financial aid for those wishing to get a vasectomy reversed called...wait for it... 'Blessed arrows'.
That is some dirty dirty talk.

It's the same way people get away with not vaccinating their kids: the vast majority does it, so their kids are at lower risk, while in a country without vaccinations they'd just die.

But, I'm glad to know what far-right causes they support, so I can donate money to fighting them.
As for the rest, if how many children they have, what religion they practice, and how they raise their kids is their business. Unless they are breaking the law or abusing the children (and no, I don't think spanking is abuse), I say let them be. Or don't watch the show and they will go away.

However, once you enter the 'marketplace of ideas' and expose your ideas and beliefs to the media, your ideas are open to scrutiny and criticism. So either support them logically and rationally or deal with the criticism.

I hear you both. ;-)

I would not argue that a woman does not have the right to determine the parameters of her reproduction. But I would challenge the assertion that they are not harming anyone. If you read up on the Quiverfull movement, you'll notice that their extreme anti-birth control stance has potential enormous consequences for women (Right to Conscience, anyone?), especially given the Quiverfull desire to populate key policy-making positions with likeminded fundamentalist Christians simply by sheer force of numbers. People like the Duggars think everyone should live as they do and are willing to enter politics to ensure that we have our choice to not have 20 children taken away.

I don't have to agree with all their beliefs to respect that fact they have some, ya dig?

It's one thing if people are trying to enforce their religious beliefs on you when there are glaring hypocrisies staring you in the face, and you make insightful commentary on what's wrong with their arguments.
But it's quite another to disrespect an entire religion when not all of its adherents are all up in your business. It's crass, reductive, and childish, and it's one of the very few but admittedly massive problems I have with some of the threads on this site.

@amenfro: My family is deeply Catholic; I have no fundamental ill will toward Christians. I am not Christian myself but I respect those who hold those beliefs. I agree with many of Jesus' teachings without believing he is my saviour. But I can, and do, take issue with Christian beliefs when they are oppressive and have impacts on others' lives.

I love the name Peyton for a girl, but Peyton Manning may deter this.

And then the oldest proceeded to propose to his girlfriend that he has NEVER EVEN KISSED.

It's so weird with these creos. When Mr.B was young the excuse was that the dinosaur fossils were put in the Earth by Satan, then that they were the bones of the demons cast out by their deity, then is that they were there but the Earth was young, now that somehow laminin is Jeebus holding us together. WTF?
