MJ worked hard to keep his kids out of the spotlight, with the blankets on their faces and everything that to the outside looked weird, but coming from someone who was used bythe media from such a young age it makes sense that he wanted them protected from the spotlight.
I don't think he would have wanted their grief to be paraded out for the world to see, if the kids were at the memorial I think they should have been backstage or something.

We all know Joe pushed his children to be little money-making machines. Did the interviewer really have to start this now?
I guess he got what he wanted, we're looking at the interview and talking about Evil Joe again and how evil he is.
My point is just that this statement wasn't made in a vacuum.
Does your eye see any possibility of their growing into performers...someday?
Was he squinting at him and twirling his moustache too? Did he throw his arms in the air and take a bow after Joe answered?
Why am I so annoyed by this?

But legal Jezzies-- since she is legally still married to him, will this get him any kind of access to the kids? Especially if she becomes ill, or dies?

There was a clip, reshown on the Daily Show, where he immediately starts talking about his future plans and his new record studio when asked about Michael. It made me feel so sick, literally nauseous. I was surprised my how upset it made me feel.

Katherine, please keep him away!

Taraborelli says that at the beginning of the second leg of the Dangerous tour, right after the first molestation allegations hit the news, Michael became dependent on painkillers. He describes hotel rooms left ruined with vomit, with holes in the walls and crazy scribbling all over the walls and furniture ("I love you. I love you." written while he had been on the phone with Lisa Marie Presley). He talks about Michael collapsing at dance rehearsal, about constant hospitalization, about him laying bed crazy and high in Hong Kong with Elizabeth Taylor trying to get him to eat (Taraborelli says he dropped to about 105 pounds at this time, and he's 5'10") by telling him that if he didn't eat cake she would call his family and let them talk to him.
Finally, all of his advisors and family flew out to Bangkok, I think, in order to get him home and off the tour. He didn't want to see them, and it took Elizabeth and other friends a full day to convince him to have a luncheon so his mother -- who was basically living in a state of hysteria since the allegations broke -- could talk to him and hug him and make sure he was really alive. And Taraborelli says that towards the end of the luncheon, during which Michael (who was high, again) mostly sat in a corner by himself, Jermaine approached him and asked him, again, if he would participate in a televised concert with the Jackson 5. Michael, who had refused for YEARS to work with his brothers again, finally just mumbled yes to get him off his back.
Lisa Marie recounted to Taraborelli that Michael had told her once, "I wish they would just love me without me having to find out they want something else from me." That poor, poor man.

But with everything that has been revealed about Joe's craziness, would it even be POSSIBLE for him to be in a situation where he'd be involved in raising the kids?

In the biography I'm reading, it's not just Joe who calls him Big Nose -- his brothers do, sometimes, too.

Coming from a large family, I can understand a little harmless teasing, but the family was relentless when it came to Michael.

My god. Let them grieve in peace.

This grammatically incorrect question bothers me more than Joe's response. This guy is getting paid how much to interview people? As an English major, that stings.
Before everyone jumps on me, though, Joe WAS asked a very tricky question. It wasn't as though he was offering his opinion unasked. It's hard to tell in such a short clip but maybe he was just trying to be a nice grandpa and compliment the kids? Because it would have sounded really harsh for him to say anything other than yes, the kids have talent, and either way it's getting press for the show.
Or maybe I'm just being overly optimistic because I do not even want to THINK about that tragedy being repeated again. Mah brain, it refuses to compute.

But shockingly, that's not something I can picture Joe Jackson saying.

He had 9 kids, and he did it to all 9 of them. He's already very much a repeat offender.
(Oh HAI, two replies)

BTW, this man is scary. I think we all agree in that.
