    When you're writing other stuff, a lot of times you wind up with giant page counts and no one sees it, you know.

    I just wanted to say (as someone who tends to get daunted by reading long pieces online) that I ate up every word of this interview. I haven't read Markoe since How To Be Hap-Hap-Happy Like Me came out, but I'm sure as hell about to fix that right now. Man, this was like running into an old friend and realizing how much you missed having her crack you up. She's just wonderful.

    (Coincidentally, I linked to "Dog Poetry" on Youtube just a few weeks back, while noting that the "Squirrel!" gag in Pixar's Up was old hat. I remembered that sketch from 20 years ago!)

    I laughed my way through this entire interview. Markoe always struck me as one of those talents who is so smart and bitingly funny but only known to a handful of us. But that little handful is made up of hardcore, diehard, obsessive fans and if someone asked us "who's Merrill Markoe?" we could hold forth for an hour about how much we love her.

    David Chase who created the Sopranos had been working in Hollywood for at least two decades.

    She is right, it is a very youth driven business. Trying to break in after 25 is difficult.

    It's too bad because many actors and especially writers don't hit their stride until they are older and have some life experience.
