My ex, for whom English was her second language, once bought a godawful looking faux fur beaver coat for the bitterly cold winters here in Canada. Once when asked if she was cold, she said "Oh, no - my beaver is keeping me warm." Could have heard a pin drop...

Anyone who doesn't like this commercial needs to take a chill pill. What's their beef? That it acknowledges a common euphemism for "vagina"? I like "beaver" a lot more than "blue liquid" in place of uterine lining. I think this commercial is very pro-woman and all around awesome. Except, you know, that Kotex dredges up sad memories of middle school.

I wasn't aware that there was higher/lower tier menstrual products. Where does playtex or tampax come in? Why do they all end in x?

@lms11: I think Tampax and Playtex (and maybe OB?) are first tier, as far as tampons go. I'm not a pad girl, so I have no idea about pads - I guess Always? I'm not sure if brands are the same in the US as in Canada.

@lms11: I read a really interesting article about that X thing, actually. It was about how certain prefixes and suffixes have phases of popularity with advertising/development companies. The article had it broken down to what words were popular in what eras, specifically to give the buyer an idea of being on the cutting edge of technology. "-Ax/ex/ix" was an example, as was "-tron". But of course I can't remember precisely how it went or where the heck I read this article. ^_^ The best example for today of course is "i". iPod, iContact email marketing, the iGeneration, iEverythingElse.

@lms11: When commerical period products started coming out in the 1920-30s, it was before you could just hand your purchases to the cashier. You had to ask an employee to get them for you, so they picked non-obvious names so that women would feel comfortable asking for them. Later, they were moved to a next to the register item, so women wouldn't even have to ask.

-X endings were big around then.

THIS is what I'm talking about. Enough of the blue liquid and the Cheerleaders jumping around. Period's aren't fun. This, however, is a hilarious change of pace and would completely win me over (if i was buying lady products in Australia)
