I'm always amazed by people who can see beauty in the most mundane or ugly of things. I'd love to be able to see the world with Melanie's eyes.

I just recently saw an exhibit of work featuring several artists who all work with hair as a medium: [halsey.cofc.edu]
One of the most interesting, to me, was Loren Schwerd, who makes miniature houses out of hair. Though the whole thing brought the idea of Freud and the Uncanny back to my mind-- something about hair will always be a little gross to me.

Sometimes I will make an "S" out of a hair on the shower wall before rinsing it off, so I guess Melanie and I are one in the same.

@alouette: I make swirls with it! Sometimes I don't even rinse it off right away. I let it stay there and just keep adding hairs to my masterpiece until I finally get sick of it and rinse it off and start again.

Much too sad for me. Reminds me of having to say goodbye to a dying grandmother in a coma and my father warning us that she doesn't look the same. Asking if this was the last way we wanted to remember her. I chose to go, my brother didn't. I'm glad I did, but it's much better to remember people as they existed in life rather than as illness and death has physically changed them. That is very, very hard.

@seatangle: I think I would have felt the same way a few weeks ago. I was recently reading Eleanor Clift's account of her husband's passing. He was sick with cancer for an extended period of time and eventually decided to use hospice care at home rather than passing away in a hospital. After caring for him for so long in their living room, Eleanor said she didn't feel those squeamish feelings about death when he died. In fact, she almost felt like the EMTs who came to her house were intruding on their last private moment.
