Silly gays, thinking we're going to be getting rights and stuff under an Obama administration just because he said "gay" in a couple of speeches. *sigh* My post-election euphoria sure didn't last long.
@will_this_dissertation_ever_end?!: I think he's genuinely committed to reversing Don't Ask Don't Tell, and the question is when, not if. It seems like there's a feeling that if he tries to rush through it in the first few months, it will not end well for a policy change or for his working relationship with the military. Obama generally has a good handle on issues of political timing.
@ceejeemcbeegee: Indeed. My partner and I totally want our next glorious Prez to use an Obamamobile. Before now I never felt so frightened for a president. How sad is that?
@Rose.Selavy.Needs.A.Drink: Not sad, that is practical. My department interviewed a candidate for assistant professor and he did this really interesting presentation on the relationship between Secret Service and the POTUS. He made some great points about perception and projection of power of the Secret Service within a democratic government, but during the entire presentation, I just couldn't stop thinking that now more than ever, Obama needs incredibly tight protection.
@Crabby Cakes wants some Dance Biscuits.: Yeah, I often felt like the bourbon out acted old Fred in being itself. But maybe there is a call for more grumpy old conservatives on tv today.
@hellodarling!: HAHA i instantly did the mental math on how long id need to get preg, have a behbeh, wait for them to be of schooling age, move to Long Island.... to get my child in a school called Barack Obama Elementary.
@shahrazad: Well I like the guy but he's scandal prone. He has a worse zipper problem than clinton and is known for it. I dont think that should matter, but for some reason it does. Plus its his whole Energy Secretary past
I'm sort of mystified to why all of you want to see Hillary Clinton in charge of health care. I'm sure she'd do a great job at it, absolutely, but I find it hard to believe that she is the only person in the senate who would be able to get shit done. It seems pretty clear that we're likely to get quality health care reform whether or not she's in charge of it -- or if the Obama administration pussies out and we don't get it, there's nothing HRC can do about it.
It seems like the reason you guys want her to be in charge of it is so she can get credit for that accomplishment, and I understand that to some degree, but I care more about the actual passage of good universal health care (like the Baucus bill), not who gets credit for it.
On the other hand, she is probably the best possibility for Secretary of State, period.
Oh, you know, these "small" things that Condi did, helping promote "microfinance grants for women in developing countries and her efforts to get rape made a war crime at the UN." You know, small things.

But that's as far as I'll go with the idea that Rice has been a good SOS. Due in no small part to her boss's assitude.
