In reply to Solange On Her Hair: "I’ve Always Been Really Fearless About Change."
I DID THIS A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO!
After, like, an adolescence of whinging about how much I wanted to shave my head, and how I just never had the guts to, I just came back from lunch one day with no hair (courtesy of an impulse visit to barber).
Seriously, if you want to do it, I so recommend just doing it. The adrenaline rush makes you feel fearless, and besides, of all the things you could do and later regret, why not go for the one where you can still grow it out, if it's not for you?

Is that an old quote from Olivia Newton-John? I thought her husband faked his death and disappeared a few years ago?

@Triphena: I think her boyfriend (not husband) disappeared a few years ago. She then married some other guy (her current husband)last year. Then earlier this year some private detective claimed to find the old boyfriend hiding in Mexico (so he didn't have to pay his child support to his ex-wife and some other big debts).

The fact that I know this makes me think I read way too much celebrity "news". Think of all the useful stuff I could store in my brain if this wasn't there!

So, can someone explain "Whip It" to me? The movie itself is fiction, but the roller derby characters are based on real people (like Rosa Sparks), right?

P.S. I saw it on Friday and loved it.

@Sputnik_Sweetheart: From my understanding, the movie is based on a book written by a derby girl. So, the characters are very loosely based on real people. As far the names (like RosaSparks), they got permission from real people to use their derby names, even though the characters aren't based on those actual people. The movie writers just needed to find some bad-ass names.

Kristen Stewart should just do what Michael Clark Duncan did, if anyone can talk to her about something other than Twilight she can give them $5.

But seriously does she want them to gush to her about the weather or local sports teams?

I am DYING to cut my hair short. DYING I say! Seeing absolutely beautiful women like Solange rock it makes me want to even more, even though my bone structure isn't as amazing. I'm unsure what to do specifically because my hair is extremely thick and wavy and I don't want a weird little curly poof. any tips?

Weren't there lots of ladies sporting this 'do in the 1980s?

What's happened between then and now that it's considered proof of insanity or "a mistake"?

I didn't quite understand yet that my hair did not define me.

Solange has confirmed what I kept trying to drive home throughout the whole "black hair" discussion.

On the Chris Rock/Relaxer post I said: I'm of mixed heritage, Black and Asian. It isn't a cultural or esthetic thing for me. Relaxed hair makes my hair easier to manage. But I can also wear it natural, wavy or pretty much any style I choose depending on my mood. And by natural, I mean cutting it off and starting from the roots.

I love Solange for making women understand that there is no such thing as "good hair."

I find it weird that people have such a strong reaction towards short hair. Last year I was just bored and decided to cut my hair short, not bald, just, short, and the reactions were insane. Things like "I could never EVER do that!!" were said to me more than once. Do what? It's just hair, it grows back, it's not like I got a full back tattoo of a penis, people.

@sarasasa: I once died my blonde hair light brown in college and three people asked me if that meant I was depressed, 'cause, you know, you don't just do something like DYE your hair DARKER unless you have serious mental health issues...

I recently cut my hair into a very short "pixie" cut, and could not believe people's reactions.

The most common one, by far, was, "Oh my god, what does your HUSBAND think?!"

@Tippi Hedren: I love a pixie cut! I continuously gravitate toward short hair. Every time I start growing it out, I get sick of it and go back to short. I'm too heavy right now to rock a full-on pixie, though.

I get so disgusted on What Not to Wear when women with scraggly hair in terrible condition CRY when Nick suggests cutting even an inch off. Short hair on the right face can look amazing. Such as with Solange.

It's not for everyone, but she looks amazing with her cropped do. I never noticed her great bones and pretty eyes until she got rid of the 20 lbs. of weave she used to wear. And, I think, dare I say it, that she is prettier than her famous sister.
