@apocalypse-nowish: That seriously pissed me off, too. I read the whole thing; it was really kind of disturbing and seemed to me like she was purposely trying to stir up trouble.
Lindsey Lohan can come over to my house and eat ramen noodles if she wants. Of course, she'll have to pay rent. But my super frugal husband will get her in shape in two weeks, guaranteed.
WTF is up with Gisele Bundchen being photographed with her shirt over her head? WTF is approving these photos and thinking, that's sexy/hot???
On another note, Heidi Klum can model.
And of course the little girl earned more in a commercial than in Slumdog. Slumdog was a low budget film that was originally going to go straight to DVD because they couldn't find a distributor at first...Are the parents releasing this statement to make people think the kids were underpaid for the movie? Because really, they're getting a sweet deal.
@Rosaxe: I'm getting awfully tired of these kids' families saying that Boyle hasn't done enough for them when he's already basically insured that they'll be set for life.
Does it strike anyone else as a tad doublestandardy that very few people have responded to Simon Cowell's sookiness when tens of thousands trample Ms Heigl any time she says something similar (and less overt, in my opinion)?
@tiny_danza: I'm not commenting on Simon Cowell because I don't know who he is, therefore he's a bit too douchy with his self importance to waste keystrokes on.
@tiny_danza: Yes. Cowell gets nowhere near the hate that rains on Heigl whenever she opens her mouth. And he is way more of a douche than she will ever be. Good to know that "boys will be boys" is alive and well even on a feminist site, yes?
@tiny_danza: Also, Simon's whole schtick is being an ass, so there isn't much to comment on without stating the obvious. I guess one could say something like, "[a]nother good one, Simon, you've acted an ass again."
@encnyc: but, ummmm, every character heigl plays is rather whiney, no? So shouldn't we be saying "another good one, Kat, you've acted whiney again." I don't buy that.
MPAA: you are asshats. There was that pretty-graphic depiction of CHILD star Dakota Fanning getting raped...was that NC-17? Nooo. Then this silly horror film where the dad gets to exact revenge on some guys who raped his daughter ...even the commercial for that depicts rape! Fuckers.
as the wise Katt Williams said: "Poor Britney. How sad. How hilariously sad."
But seriously - the situation with her father gives me (an outsider, yes) the creeps. I know a lot of you lurve the BritBrit, but her act, nipple-pasties and all, is essentially sexual performance of a child, if she is as incompetent as her legal status under the conservatorship suggests she is.
@femputer (now with threadender 4.0!): Huh. I hadn't really thought about the implications of the conservator/manager father. I kind of ... agree with you? I mean, to some extent. It isn't as though she is actually IS child, but yeah, she's been ruled basically incompetent. and her dad has legal control over her. AND he's helping manage her career decisions. And I'm somehow even MORE skeeved out that I was before.
@femputer (now with threadender 4.0!): Someone needs to write a researched, long and thoughtful essay about that (I nominate you, as no one else had thought of it), because you're right, she's considered incapable of making her own decisions in the eyes of the government, should she really be shown as a sex symbol? I don't think she can be trusted to pick her own sex partners without someone else making sure they are not taking advantage of her.
Also, I was always creeped out by her song themes and album titles - 'Blackout', when she was going through such a horrible time publically and admittedly took drugs? Who okayed that? And this new 'Circus' thing, where they try to make it seem like she's the ringmaster and in control when she's said herself all the people surrounding her freak her out. It's like she's just someone's puppet, and they're happy about her problems since they can market them.
@prestocaro fears the Sexaual Peter:...if that were possible. I'll admit, her whole act has skeeved me out since Day One..the teenage Lolita crap was nasty, b/c at that point it really was sexual performance of a child (Obv. not pornographic, but the Catholic school girl thing...ick). It's just gotten THAT much skeevier.
@Dreaming of Chocolate-Covered Bacon: yes that really is nasty - the Circus thing. Look, hahaha, my life is a fucking circus! The paparazzi and tools like Perez, they all add to the zoo that is my world! I say boo.
And maybe if I cut down on Jezebel-time, I'd have the time to write this paper you speak of. It could actually be a pretty cool little Law Review Note.
