Back in the 70s, we'd watch the Dick Clark Awards because they mostly covered popular forms of music, so you didn't have all of the different genres, as you get from the Grammys and it was a place to see bigger productions than those on the variety shows.
Then some time in the mid to late eighties, they became kitschy and considered uncool, but now thanks to the blogosphere, cocooning and online video, they're apparently back in vogue.
i love me some miss jackson, seen her in concert, but GIRL, WHAT IS UP WITH THOSE PANTS? are they even pants? are you channeling peter pan as an homage to neverland? please explain.
JLo's facial expression when she exited the stage was PRICELESS. Someone was going to get a serious beatdown. She looked totally and completely furious.
I get that Rhianna wants to be edgy, but she just looked like a boring Judas Priest/Leeloo (The Fifth Element) love child. That is not current or edgy.
I am almost embarrassed to admit that Lady GaGa has won me over with her pantsless ways. Her music is insanely catchy and her shows and videos that are practically performance art, they are so sublimely odd. I love her so much and I am so happy she exists.
@amoureuse is a second class citizen: Really? Admittedly I haven't watched her performance yet, but I always thought she had presence. I've never been really impressed with her voice, but there is something about her I always found compelling.
If this is supposed to be Jennifer Lopez's comeback performance, then eek. I'm not talking about her fall- whatever, it happens and I think she recovered from it really well. The song was atrocious and all the stage craft in the world can't save a performance if the song is bad. Also it didn't help that the stagecraft wasn't that great either. I thought the choreography was pretty dull, especially knowing that J.Lo could do so much better. Whatever her shortcomings are, she is a pretty good dancer.
@Sputnik_Sweetheart: I miss the J.Lo that sang "Waiting for Tonight." And "Jenny From The Block." And the cheesy dance remix of "Do It Well" that I have on my workout playlist on my iPod.
@Sputnik_Sweetheart: The song is just so dated. Who name drops Louboutins over and over again in a recession? She should have swapped the release dates of this and "My Love Don't Cost A Thing," really.
I feel for J.Lo. People will be focusing on the fact that she busted her ass on stage instead of the fact that she essentially performed the shittiest jingle for Louboutins ever written.
@TheGuvnah:
It has and we've let it happen. Even with Lady Gaga giving you the closest thing to rock star we've seen in a while, she has the product placement all over that piano.

Rihanna has no stage presence. I am rooting for the girl, but that was some visual Lunesta.
I thought about you Tracie during Whitney's performance. You were right, you can't unsmoke crack.
