    @bluetrain84: I'm with you, big celebrity spectacle or not i think mourning should involve a little more decorum. The exception is something like Hugh Hefners funeral, that should be filled with cleavage as a tribute to him which would be fitting

    I feel so terrible for his children. His daughters words at the service really drove home that this man wasn't just a celebrity, an icon, a legend...he was a much loved father, and son as well. RIP MJ :(

    @Erode: I just saw the clip of his daughter and lost it. Regardless of everything, he left three kids who loved him very much. At least most of their extended family seem to be supportive and focused on the kids right now (JOE, BACK AWAY FROM THE CHILDREN).

    @Erode: I actually feel bad for witnessing her breaking down. It felt intrusive and voyueristic. She was cleraly in pain and it should have been a private moment. I love MJ and i'm glad people are finally paying him tribute and the media isn't jumping down his throat for once but i think i'm going to back away from spectacle for a while. This is too much.

    @Erode: I agree -- Paris' statement made me realize Michael Jackson was an actual person, not just the notion we have in our heads of him.


    I wasn't sure of the kind of relationship Michael had with his kids, being a celebrity and having the problems he had and all. She really almost made me cry -- I think he was probably a very loving dad.

    @Erode: Yes. Hopefully people will remember that MJ was above all a person. I think that often gets lost when we talk about celebrities, especially stratospherically famous ones like MJ.

    @Eric Northman is mine: I can see where you are coming from, but her speech wasn't planned. She told them while they were giving their closing sentiments that she wanted to say something, and they allowed her to do so. It may have been better to have a private moment, but she WANTED to say what she did, and I think it's an important distinction to make here.


    That said, I 100% agree with leaving the spectacle behind. Even going through the comments on the LiveBlog, it's obvious that some people are never going to stop being insensitive jerks, and I don't think I can handle hearing one more person suggest that no one should be mourning because they think he's a bad person/made mediocre music/is a child molester/etc. And it's only a matter of time before the media turn on him again.


    I'm going to take my memories of MJ, and this lovely service, and call it a day.
