Of course, I don't stick around to chat with the shower head. I'm a love 'em and leave 'em kind of gal, I guess.

So it's not a matter of, "Oh this is such an unhealthy way to deal with being abused". It's autism, and it isn't necessarily a bad thing. Many autistic people feel that their condition is not something to be cured - and these women seem to be perfectly happy making love to amusement park rides, fences, and crossbows.

Also, a minor lesson about appropriate PDAing might not be out of line for anyone .....

The love that dare not speak its' name...

I guess the conclusion I came to regarding this form of sexuality that I never knew existed is that it's incredibly saddening. Not only do they have to deal with the up's/downs that we all have had to experience towards the opposite/same sex, but they also have to deal with the fact that they are completely ostracized with few exceptions in their community because of their attraction. Then to top it all off, due to their AS, they cannot process the fact that despite what their mind might tell them, objects will never, ever love or care for them back.

Also, honestly, is this so fantastically different from some people's relationships with other people? "She loves someone who will never love her back" "She's deluded into thinking that there's a relationship when its all in her head" .... these are basic soap opera plot lines that have been said in reference to this situation.
I'm not saying its normal, but if they're happy/safe, who the hell cares?

Oh yes, and that would make a fence feminine, too (la cerca).

I have a problem with this statement.

Of course, the doc is about all the odd and interesting manifestations of female sexuality... but it's not too tough to see the 'religious woman can't be out of the closet' angle coming into play here. We;ve seen it in gay religious men plenty.

There is being understanding and then there is feeding a delusion and you're not helping someone by doing the latter.

But you're right, while I'm inclined to feel sad and think that these women are dealing with trauma the best they know how, having a one-way relationship with a building isn't necessarily healthier than having a one-way relationship with a person. Even an animal could love them back! (Oh shit, did I just condone bestiality?)
