    Suzanne Somers really needs to STFU. Since when does being on bad sitcoms make one qualified to dispense medical advice? I'm all about self-treating minor medical problems (bruises, colds, sore throats) with herbs etc., but cancer? Not something to be trifled with. #reneezellweger

    @eibhinn: You said it. I'm pretty sure that if Farrah Fawcett had gone alternative right off, she'd have died much sooner. And I'm pretty sure that if Suzanne Somers was suffering full-body cancer, she still is. Something's been loose in her head for years, and it seems to have spread to her mouth. #reneezellweger

    I saw Tom Delay on Millionaire (yes, I watch it -- don't judge me). He actually got the questions he was asked correct but his thought process seemed very ... scattered to say the least and he wasn't very good at expressing himself. I don't know why I was surprised by any of that, but I was. The one contestant didn't go with the (correct) answer that Delay had provided, but hey, can you really blame a guy for not believing Tom Delay? #reneezellweger

    Suzanne Somers -- please! I know at least three tragic cases of women who first went the alternative way, and when they finally did have surgery (one postponed breastcancer surgery for more than two years because of all the nonsense the alternative therapists told her), it was too late. The cancer had spread, and they died shortly after. #reneezellweger

    @BlondeGoddess: It does seem a bit irresponsible of her. And she got in some hot water just a little while ago saying similar comments about Patrick Swayze and how he "should have" chosen alternative therapy, and that could've "saved" him. Part of me feels like she's just doing it for shock value and to get in the news. #reneezellweger

    @BlondeGoddess: I can't believe she said that either. "If my recently deceased friend had first tried my particular brand of extremely dubious pseudoscience, she might still be alive!" I can ignore these sorts of alternative health fads when they're ineffective and it's healthy people buying into them—since there's no real harm done—but the ones that prey on people who are seriously (and possibly terminally) ill really burn me up. #reneezellweger

    Most alternative treatments can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine. If your doctor/alternative hogwashist tells you otherwise, then get a different doctor/alternative hogwashist.

    (Note: I do believe that alternative medicine can be great, but anyone who tells you that it is the only solution is full of hogwash.) #reneezellweger

    @pantsless economist...access RESTORED: And way to make people who go the traditional route of cancer treatment feel like they're going the "easy" route. How is living with, suffering from, and fighting cancer in ANY way an easy route? I totally understand the value in alternative therapies for different maladies, and get that they do work for some people. But I'd like to see SS talk to my mother in law who is living with metastatic breast cancer that what she's going through is the easier route. My MIL would have some strong words for her. (and probably a fist or two. She's a feisty lady) #reneezellweger

    @thecameralovesyou: I know, it's horrible what she implies. Also: she makes people feel responsible for the fact that they are so sick, because had they chosen another path, they wouldn't have bee terminal. Come again? This stuff makes me so, so mad. #reneezellweger

    @BlondeGoddess: Yeah - it's particularly ridiculous because when Fawcett first got cancer, she went the traditional route - and the cancer went in to remission. Unfortunately it only went in to remission for a few months, and when it came back she opted for "holistic" treatment in Germany. So really, if you're looking at it that way, it would seem that the denial of traditional treatment is what killed her. (But of course, the cancer killed her and to argue about it like Suzanne Sommers is doing is awful.) #reneezellweger

    @BlondeGoddess: Not to mention the fact that I'm sure most people would want to try anything if it means they might improve their health or cure their cancer. but the reality is, a lot of people don't have the money to try all the therapies out there. People have to put their time and resources in the treatment they choose, and shouldn't be made to feel like they made a bad decision that could cost them their life.

    I have a lot of opinions on this, clearly! #reneezellweger

    @BlondeGoddess: People do this. I think they do it because if you can blame someone for having cancer or not surviving it, it somehow lessens the tragedy in their minds. It's awful. There are members of my own family who have done this when others have had cancer or died from it. It's like a way of denying the fear and grief. "Well, if they had done this, it would be ok -- so it's all their fault and I'll never get/die of cancer because I know better!" Bugs me to the point of pulling my hair out. #reneezellweger

    @thebootyfaerie: True! An alternative therapist once told me that sometimes the best thing a patient can do is go both traditional and alternative, tell both practioners and get the best of both worlds while the two therapists each try to beat the other. #reneezellweger

    @beastybeatsy: Exactly.

    I have a chronic health condition, and I'm lucky that my doctor is supportive of alternative therapies. It probably helps that it's one of those conditions for which there is no one treatment.

    Plus, if I pursue any alternative therapies on my own, my doctors want to hear about it - because if it worked for me, it might help someone else. #reneezellweger
