    I think it would have been funnier if Bill Maher compared his love letters to Sanford's. Like Sanford would say, "You are special and unique" and Bill's would say, "Unlike all other women, at least you read the newspaper."

    @medeasdragons: It has to be the hubris of, "but I won't get caught". Sanford flying to South America is hardly a question of generational familiarity with the internet. Personally, I remember the FBI lifting deleted files off of Monica Lewinski's computer in 1998 or 1999. Anything that is out here on the internet, or even saved once on my computer - I take that to be publicly available.

    We just got rid of all our movie channels and Real Time is one of the few things I actually miss.
    That was HILARIOUS.
    I, for one, am glad people don't delete that kind of stuff. We would have no CEFD if not for stupid guys writing BAD emails to us.

    While I found this segment funny when I watched it, it was more an aghast disbelief. How dumb do you have to be, to be so sanctimonious and hypocritical? Are you really so sure you're not going to get caught and you'll run the risk of putting this in print?

    Whether it's these two or John Edwards, the mind boggles.

    @SomeAuthorGirl: At least Russel Brand is hot (even though the eyeliner isn't my thing) and doesn't seem to hate women. I'm whatever about inappropriate crushes- its not like you're ever going to meet the dude- but Bill Maher has some serious woman issues. He is barely able to talk to a woman without insulting the female gender.

    @clevernamehere: But I feel like most of his sexist gaffes tend to come from treating women, during conversations, as "one of the boys."

    In my mind, there are far worse things he could do--things that are more commonly done by men in his position--which is to act like women aren't there in the first place, to just make them completely ancillary to the debates he has on his show, for example.

    Also, I don't think it's any surprise that Maher is a womanizer of some note, but at least he doesn't pretend to be anything else like, say, Bill O'Reilly. Maher's is a sin of directness/bluntness, I think, more than it is a sin of pure assholishness.

    @skt.smth: He wasn't treating Cameron Diaz as one of the boys when he tried to get her to say she didn't like other women. He wasn't treating woman as guys when he said breast feeding was gross and like a peep show when done in public.

    I really don't care who he sleeps with, but I think the bar should be higher than "at least he's willing to speak to the famous women on his show."

    @badmutha: I get what you're saying in a way, but the thing is, that's a done deal, and not done by me. Also, no one's laughing at Sanford's family, they're laughing at him. I know there are things I'm too sensitive to laugh at, though. I guess what I'm saying is that if you feel someone has to be heartless to find this funny, I don't agree, but if you're just saying for yourself why you don't find it possible to laugh about, I'd understand that.

    That's disgusting. There's a way to voice your dislike of a person without being completely tasteless. Resorting to out-and-out vulgarity removes any credibility you could have had. It's very disappointing to read language like that on Jezebel, which purports to promote intelligent and thoughtful discussion.
