i like the 'what not to wear' outfit, but i hate that it gets deemed as the 'running errands' outfit. nobody ever wears that to run errands unless they were somewhere else dressy either before or after. like hell most women are going to put on pantyhose just to pick up the kids from school.

Hey Sadie, re: your request a Carolina Herrera or the like for the shoot, Harper's Bazaar couldn't pull from the big pricey houses. None of the runway/editorial samples would fit Susan Boyle. And because it's the Fall Fashion Issue, they wanted stuff from *this* season, which means that the houses couldn't give an already-made-for-retail size 12 from last season. More massmarket lines had already created and shipped the Fall lines when this was shot, which was months ago.

I was totally prepared to hate on the shoot.
But the makeup in the blue photo is beautiful, and that is a great color for her.
And the concert dresses are the baddest of bada**.

I think my favorite thing about this "makover" is that it totally emphasizes her beautiful smile and vibrant face. I think the sequinny top is my favorite photo exactly because she looks so naturally radiant.

I totally agree. She still looks like her. Who cares about chubby! Everytime I see her I feel like giving her a hug. I wonder if she sang for them while she was posing in the black opera gown. I tip my hat to Harper's Bazaar, they didn't photoshop away her chin in that pose, they left her cute wrinkles that add a twinkle to her eye.
As for the cost of the pieces she wore, I think this might be part of Susan's request. She is a regular gal and wants people to see that she can look like a million bucks in $400 dollar gown that is glamourous and age appropriate.
I also love the purple dress even though Sadie fells like it could potentially get frumpy but with Susan's bubbly warmth she made that up-tight backdrop come to like and with that smile looks the youngest in that photo and looks just like her.

I also have to give them major props for styling her in appropriately-priced clothing. That last dress is to die for on her, and it looks far more expensive than it is!

@Penny: I used to work at a store that sold that dress. I can tell you it looks stunning on everyone and is a bargain for the price. Tadashi is one of the few lines that I've seen that makes gorgeous elegant dresses over a size 12. I've noticed it all over Real Housewives of Orange County and have already seen a few on More to Love.

@Penny: I agree! I love the color, but what is up with the neckline? It looks like it's falling off her and makes her shoulders look really round and schlumpy when, based on the other pics, they aren't. I also think it's the only one that makes her look much older. Stacey and Clinton would NOT like this one!
