When I saw this I thought of how awesome Brazil is for its diversity. I mean, for instance it has the highest population of Japanese outside of Japan. Also, it is a well known fact that Brazilians are hot. I love multiculturalism. Sexy, sexy multiculturalism...
Some trivia for ya: There's a good amount of Jews in Brazil. After the Holocaust, those who didn't go to America in my family went to Brazil...and they still live there now. So, there's also a Holocaust connection there...that I'm sure the Brazilian Jews don't appreciate it being denied...(looking at you, Mahmoud)
@JinxyMcDeath: My dad travels to Brazil a lot for work and knows a ton of Jews there. (We're also Jewish.) In fact, he travels constantly throughout Central and South America and is always connecting with the Jewish communities there.
@LAmonkeygirl: Yea, I think a lot of Jews came over there after the Holocaust. When I was in Central America everyone was telling me to go to synagogue there because the Jewish community was so vibrant. But, I, um, couldn't get the chance to go to Sabbath services while on vacation...sorry, Hashem!
@JinxyMcDeath: I think some of my family fled to South America around that time, but I don't know if anyone's stayed in touch. For my dad, whenever he meets someone Jewish in Central or South America, and they find out that he's also Jewish, he instantly becomes a friend and member of the family. He's gone to Shabbat dinners, seders and weddings, and always knows where the good kosher restaurants are.
Tall and tan and inflammatory
This guy in Ipanema goes schmoozing
And when he threatens, each one he threatens goes...oh no.
but I watch him so sadly
How can I tell him I disdain him
Yes I would share my liberal views gladly
But each day, he tells me he hates the gays
and women and moderate muslim ways.
And when he passes, I scowl - but he doesn't see
He just doesn't see, he doesn't see me.
I wish I could have gone. My friends and family in Iran have repeatedly told me that the international support they recieve helps them go on, and all they want from us outside Iran is to show the world their struggle.
I can't parallel park and I can't back-in park either, but it's not because I'm a woman. It's because I don't live somewhere where parallel parking is prevalent, and because I think backing out of a parking space is just easier than backing in.
@sebluver: Just something to consider, but pulling out of a parking spot forward is much, much safer than backing out, especially with respect to being able to see pedestrians.
To join in, seriously? A bad parker because I happen to be a woman?
No.
I lived in Long Beach, king of all parking hell. I once parallel parked my car in such a tight space my neighbor actually texted me and said:
"good luck getting your car out tomorrow, its completely blocked in."
I wrote back and said "I PARKED it there."
I shit you not there was perhaps and inch in front and behind it.
Oh, I also work occasionally as a valet for a company that is ALL women.

@lalie (apologetic mess): I am not a smoker, but once or twice a year a friend and I enjoyed buying a pack of cloves and smoking three or four in a row.
Sigh. I will miss that. I hate smoking actually, but think this ban is ridiculous.
I hate parking; it stresses me out to no end. I don't think that I'm bad at it because I'm female, I think I'm bad at it because my parents didn't let me drive at a normal age and instead instilled a horrific fear of driving in me. I don't like driving with other people in my car because I feel like I have to perform, especially at parking, and I worry that if someone sees me parking badly they will think I can't do it because I'm female, and not for the simple reason that no one ever really taught me properly. (However, this does make a good park-job really satisfying. I'll even text my roommate and tell her about it.)
I AM A PHENOMENAL PARKER. Backing in? I do it for fun. Parallel parking? Child's play. And I have an SUV. And I am a woman.
I actually am kind of boasty and protective of my super parking powers, in large part because of assumptions like those cited in the Daily Fail. And, um, I have been known to talk at length about my car's exceptional turning radius.
@jigglyball: Me too. Girls have asked me to park their cars before, because I'm such a bad ass parker.
Also, once a friend's car got stuck terribly in snow/ice in Boston. Two older guys I was with tried for an hour to get it out, while I kept saying that we should try this other method (the rocking method). They didn't listen, but before giving up entirely we tried my version. About 5 minutes later, the car was out. I was in the driver's seat.
@Cimorene: Rocking is where it's at! We got stuck in major mud on a vacation, and our LADY tour guide took the wheel from the male driver and got it out. She was awesome.
I'm gonna brag here about my parallel parking skills which were once described as "probably the most awesome thing I've ever seen."
Driving in NY. Alternate side of the street parking was in effect, so there were a lot of cars double parked. Also, it had been snowing, so there was about 2 feet of snow between tightly packed cars and against the curb. I saw a spot buried in the middle of four cars.
@LaComtesse: I once had to back a large moving van towing a car into a narrow driveway when Mr. G tried and failed beyond the point of simple cursing. He was reduced to speechless sputtering and actually kicked the tire of the truck when I had successfully completed the task.
@Rooo sez BISH PLZ: Anyone can date an abuser. He seems great at first, but...
What varies is how long women stay with guys like that -- sometimes they grew up in an abusive home, so they don't know a different reality. Sometimes they think it'd be too dangerous to leave, and so they stay in the relationship. Some women don't believe it's abuse. Some women have been beaten down to the point where think they deserve it. And so on. Some women say eff this, I'm outta here.
Also? Kinda victim-blaming isn't very cool. It's not really up to women to encourage or discourage certain behaviors in men. He learned abuse somewhere, he can unlearn it. Problem is, abusers don't think there's anything wrong with the way they treat their intimate partners. And victims who may be looked at as encouraging or enabling this behavior are generally trying to maximize their own safety and don't give a shit about giving a gift to society in the form of a reformed abuser, when in the process of that reform, they may get themselves killed.
@SarahMC: I rule at parallel parking. My boyfriend makes me parallel park his car for him when we are trying to fit in a tight spot. It makes me feel important.
@andyburn: I love it! Too many people spend their lives in places without street parking - only parking lots. Then they're terrible in the city. I initially failed my driving test because I had not mastered parallel parking. So I learned to do it perfectly and now I get tingly when I get really close to the curb.
@SarahMC: Totally. I do feel accomplished when get it really close to the curb. It's funny when people move to the city and just can't do it. Confidence is critical to a good parking job.
