AHHHH SJP's eyes in that Marie Claire cover... they haunt me...

Also, that W cover of Paltrow looks NOTHING like her.

Honestly, I think The View has hurt women just as much (if not more) than many magazines have.

@hortense: Exactly. Last summer, my mom's friend got tickets to see a taping, and took my mom. Apparently, while they were in the audience, the woman sitting behind my mother was approached by a producer and was asked, "Hey, do you want to come back next week for a make-over? We're looking for women with bad hair and we promise we won't say anything about your weight." And that's just the behind-the-scenes nonsense. The show's on air cattiness, self-righteousness and general vapidity are self-evident enough.

@ATull: I think it feeds into a lot of negative stereotypes, and that the conversation doesn't represent what it is meant to represent--a wide array of voices from women of different political, cultural, and economic backgrounds. It is presented as a forum for real discussion, but it ALWAYS ends up with 5 women talking over one another incessantly. Everyone talks, nobody listens. There's no actual discourse going on.

@hortense: It's pretty much just the TV version of a woman's mag anyway. They devote a small amount of time to world events, the rest of it is celebrity gossip/interviews, fashion, beauty products and diet information.

@lavenderstain: Yeah, it's hard to watch and listen to when all you hear is five voices talking all at once. I love Joy but I see your point. I occasionally watch her show on HLN and I don't know if she's just used to The View's "Ask Guest a Question, Cut Them Off Before They Can Answer" format but she seems to interrupt her guests and veer off-topic quite often.

Drew Barrymore and her relentless avalanche of twee "I'm relatable" bullshit always seems desperate to me. Which is a shame because she's one of the few people actually working on raising the profile of women in Hollywood so really I should be one of her allies.

    But I just can't.

Halle Berry's InStyle cover mentions Matt LeBlanc in the "What's Sexy Now" headline. Oh, how times change.

I admit I never would have guessed Drew but it makes me inexplicably happy. The Nicole Kidman magazine love was at its craziest when she was on the cover of Vogue twice in nine months back in '03-'04.

Yes, it advertises products at a standard most Americans can only dream of reaching, but I have noticed that lately they've been putting some cheaper products in there.
