    Hmm, let's see - Demi Moore is the same age as Jodie Foster and Jennifer Jason Leigh - two actresses that still seem to work pretty solidly.
    Back in the late 80s/early 90s, while Moore was making Indecent Proposal, The Butcher's Wife, Ghost, and Nothing but Trouble, Foster was making The Accused, Silence of the Lambs, Little Man Tate and Shadows and Fog. And JJL was making Single White Female (OK, a bit cheesy, but she was good in it), Short Cuts, The Hudsucker Proxy, Mrs Parker and the Vicious Circle, and Dolores Claiborne. #demimoorew

    @cinematheques: That's not about hating mothers, it's about it being a small role, corollary to one of the main characters, who's usually less than a decade younger than them. It's upsetting to them to have to move from starring to supporting roles, while men their age continue to star. #demimoorew

    Umm excuse me, Demi, before you complain about the crappy age standards, which are indeed crappy, may I remind you you are not that compelling ana ctress to watch? That MAY have somethig to do with you getting crappy parts- because every single thing you've done feels pretty much the same. That's my opinion anyway. Besides, she looks great and hardly 47 or whatever she is, so it's not like she couldn't play a much younger person on screen. She's just not that good. I don't think Kate Blanchett is hurting for roles. And a slew of even older ladies- as long as you're good, you get work regardless. #demimoorew

    @ninles: Ageism does exist and in the beauty and fashion industries, it is particularly rough, but I think that Demi's statement is only half true. There are plenty of older actresses in their 40s and 50s doing excellent work: Anjelica Houston, Meryl Streep, Patricia Clarkson, Catherine Keener, Helen Mirren, and Laura Linney, to name a few. The problem, I think, is that many actresses build their careers on playing the young, sexy love interest/eye candy and when they age, as we all inevitably do, they find those parts drying up. Demi was never, in my opinion, a great actress, but rather an actress who benefited greatly from her looks. I mean, "G.I. Jane" was never going to get her an Oscar nod. #demimoorew

    @Tchotchke: I actually think part of her problem IS how young she looks. She can't play her age (or close to it) because she's not convincing -- she'd have to be the caricatured "hot mom". The other actresses you name are not fighting their aging quite as hard and therefore are convincing "older" women on screen. #demimoorew

    @sportz.star: I totally agree and half of those other women are also cast as "sexy" female characters. The difference is that they are expected to be sexy and still convincingly middle aged, not 45 and looking like a 23 year old in a bikini. #demimoorew

    @Tchotchke: If Hollywood wasn't a place where older leading men are ALWAYS paired with way younger women there may still be love interest/eye candy roles for older, beautiful (but perhaps not Meryl Streep talented) women like Demi. For example in a movie like "Yes Man" where Jim Carey (47) is paired romantically with Zoey Deschanel (29). If ageism didn't exist Demi Moore might get a role like that at least. Hardly Oscar material, but still relatively lucrative I imagine. #demimoorew

    @sportz.star: This is exactly what I came here to post. It's not realistic for her to play a 47 year old. I know some gorgeous 47 year olds, but none that are both gorgeous and look that young. I mean, Demi's the (lone) poster child for not aging gracefully, her surgeries and exercise regimen actually make her look fantastic, but even for Hollywood her look is a little out of place for an empty-nester. At the same time, they aren't going to hire her to play the role of a 35 year old when they have the Kate Winslet types. #demimoorew
