The long arm of the law is getting longer with every passing year. Bashir's day might come. I remember when Radovan Karadzic was captured and sent to the Hague this past summer. I know people in Bosnia who had ruled that possibility out, and figured the SOB would never see the inside of courtroom. Yet, there he is, at long last. Sometimes, history suprises you in a good way.

What women in other parts of the world go through is absolutely unfathomable to me. I have no context for this kind of thing. I imagine those women in the center of the picture are looking at me and I wonder, what do I do, what can I possibly DO?

@tailfeather: Indeed. Is there some kind of international organisation of women we can join that will lobby for these things? I sponsor a girl in Zambia, which hopefully will help protect her and her community from this appalling situation, but what about an international organisation that lobbies on women's issues? I don't even know of one in Australia.

@Gingerlime: I'm sure that in a country as war torn as Sudan, the threat of death is going to be any more of a successful deterrent than it is already in the United States. I understand the anger and frustration behind such comments, but they truly aren't constructive.
