I'm just saying...most people who think this is insane are the same ones who argue a sex-positive POV that 16 year olds (and younger) are mature-minded enough to decide to become sexually active...what is the difference really? Except that in her culture she is required to get married first? And culturally, she is probably more likely to stay married whether or not it sucks (which, another newsflash, lots of marriages do even when you wait and wait to do it.)
If that part of my opinion doesn't annoy you enough, I think it is fair to compare this to gay marriage. Assuming there are two clear sides to the culture war, one side looks at this and says "Ewwwwww, SICK!!" while meanwhile the other side looks at gay marriage and says the same exact thing.
She's not 8...people are reacting to facets of her cultural lifestyle just as in the vice versa.
Tolerance is all I'm preaching. Because no one is necessarily "right" or has a clue. Arguably we're all wrong.

Also, this couple's whole story is more than creepy. Glen is full of shit and I don't buy his, "I never even looked at her that way till her dad suggested I do" story. If he really had never looked at her that way then he would've told her dad, "Umm you're daughter is a child and I think you're out of line." This is no church, it's a cult and while I'm sure lots of 16 year old girls out there say dumb shit like, "I've never really wanted to do anything but be susie homemaker" very few if any of them are trying to say they want to quit being a teenager that very second and start playing house from now till the day that they die.
I can't believe that this country can tell grown ass adults who aren't attracted to the opposite sex that they can't marry b/c they just don't understand what "marriage is about" but a fucking 16 year old can petition to marry a 26 year old (who btw looks more like 36, I'd like to see a birth certificate)??? Am I the only one who wants to scream, WTF?!?!

My great grandma got married at 14 to a 42 yo man for the wrong reasons (escaping an abusive mother), but I'm much more bothered by the fact that when my parents met, my mom was a very innocent 17 yo and my dad was 25. I just feel like with issues of consent, the circumstances are very unique and the courts don't have time to give each fair consideration. Just practice some restraint.

My bf's brother's wife is from the midwest (I mention her frequently, she is the opposite of me and the apple of my future mother in law's eyes). She joined the Army solely to find a good husband, which she did, and they got married when she was 20 and started having kids. She is absolutely the best mom and wife in the world, it is all she ever wanted to do, and even she, at 26 has said, "well I love my kids and husband, but I probably should have gotten married, and certainly waited to have kids until after I'd experienced more." Granted, maybe this girl will change her mind, but 16 seems like an awfully young time to make that choice.

Her father did not offer her up to the boy/man for marriage?
He saw how close they became when the boy/man was living with the family and decided to play matchmaker. After they started dating the boy/man asked her to marry him and then the girl asked her father for permission (she needed it to get married) and he said yes.
I'm not saying the circumstances are not weird but don't try to make this family out to be a family of loonies from this one story.

Even if one disagrees with the specifics, the idea that the age difference is relative to how old one is - a 10 year age difference isn't as weird at, say 25 and 35, but it is a tad creepy when 10 years is 2/3 of the younger partner's life.
