"Hi, I'm Autumn!"

From what I got out of it: we pretty much see Summer in Tom's eyes - that's it. We see what he wanted to see, and then, when he tried to see the bad things, we suddenly saw that too.
I also saw (and I know others did too) myself in both Tom AND Summer. A friend of mine told me once that this guy she dated was totally her Summer - she went through the same experience as Tom where you would only replay the good times with that person until finally you learn to get over them and realize bad shit happened too and there's more to that person than what you idealized them to be.
I have to admit though, the Jenny Beckman intro made me laugh.

He's amused she didn't recognise herself, and hortense sort of jumps at the assumption it's because he's self-deluded and will never realise it.. I really can't extract all that meaning from it. I can identify some foolishness but nothing that can be owed to misogyny, just people being in stupid and in love.

The Daily Mail piece, on the other hand, reads a bit like it could've been edited into making Neustader sound more like a dick.
I feel like he's probably kind of short.

I'm surprised the studio allowed that Jenny Beckman line in. Isn't that risky from a legal standpoint.

Summer wasn't a MPDG. Under developed?, yes - but she had her own set of priorities that had nothing to do with him. that and he didn't actually find any of his dreams...he was just a giant tool with undeveloped social skills who quit a job that he had hated for years in part due to his frustrated artist mentality, in part due to his propensity for self pity.
Maybe that's why I liked the movie...I didn't share the same perspective as the screenwriter.

Didn't think Summer came across as a bitch in the film. I thought she was quirky and refreshingly honest.

I agree. And TONS of great work has been created from heartbreak, bad relationships etc., it's terrific fodder, and it can also be really cathartic for the creators.
However, the issue that bothers me here (other than the fact that he kind of sounds like a jerk) is that he doesn't seem to understand that his version of events is just that - HIS version. It's not truth. it's his perspective of truth. Yet he says in the article "tells it all exactly as it happened"
This is so wrong - it's something closer to "tells it all exactly as I saw it" or better, "tells it all exactly as I remembered it" or "imagined it".
It's a little frightening to see a successful new writer with such a lack of perspective.
I've got a movie he should see before he writes any more films...or maybe, does anymore interviews. Rashomon.
Truth is subjective, there's no way around it.

When 99% of films that get made are written by white dudes, it's not hard to see where they get that idea from.

Just wanted you to know. :-)
(I don't think GawkerTech has decided for itself yet whether that multi-approving mechanism is a feature or a bug.)

If you look at it as simply a movie about a relationship and its aftermath rather than someone's vehicle for revenge, it's pretty relatable.
Also, I think it's a bit unfair to put Summer in the MPDG category, because ultimately, she isn't just there to suit Tom's needs. That she doesn't end up with him (and her reasons for it) keep her from fitting that profile, despite the fact that she's "pretty and strange".

FWIW, and not that the two are related story- or style-wise, but I find it's sorta like watching The Break Up. You may find yourself nodding and thinking, "Yeah, I've been there." Plus, I thought the soundtrack was nice.

That is all.
