    @AthertonMerriweather: They make some sleeky interesting-wash bootcut type ones nowadays - they're not all the tapered-leg Mom-jean Kmart staple anymore.


    I've never found a single pair long enough for me, even the "long" sizes, so I'll have to sit this one out.

    I clicked on the Glenn Close story expecting some awful outfit - but she looks great! I like the whole 'make do and mend' ethic - if there is a silver lining to the current economic readjustment, it's that more people will maybe start thinking like this, instead of mindlessly buying new stuff all the time.

    A gold plated button cannot justify the price of a $990 pair of jeans. Not many people know this, but gold plating is about the cheapest thing you can do, MUCH cheaper than making something solid silver. it literally costs pennies. There better be a much better reason justifying that price tag, like denim was made with crushed-up unicorns in it or something.

    @hortense: Which is why I don't tell people I'm an animal rights activist. The logical jump in most people's mind is to PETA. In reality, my kind of animal rights is donating to Gorilla Protection, supporting the WWF, the Humane Society, and my local shelters, as well as campaigning for conservation worldwide since we are all living in one eco-system and threatening one species, threatens us all. Obviously PETA missed that memo ages ago.

    @hortense: I know. Im very anti-fur, but when you try to discuss this with someone who may not be, they always bring up crazy shit that PETA has done to make me feel foolish. "so you think people who wear fur should get red paint thrown in their faces and (insert most recent PETA craziness here)???"

    *sigh* like most things, the minority of radicals seems to speak for the majority of more-sane people in the public eye.

    @EkaterinaBallerina: I'm with you. Every new item about PETA gives me a stomachache, both because I think they're bullshit and because I'm afraid of people thinking I condone that. I actually read this vegetarian magazine where Rory Freedman (puke) from Skinny Bitch (pukety puke) defended PETA's objectification of women for their cause and the next moth Carol J. Adams totally schooled her in the letters section and it was a tiny victory for animal loving feminists everywhere. I just wish they had given Adams equal time to write a counterpoint piece.

    @hortense: Exactly, and what if Peta's not so secret agenda was to make the animal rights idea look even more stupid than stories of being kidnapped by gray aliens? They're provocateurs, and their main contributors are probably the meat packing companies and the fur industry.
