Ergh. That Kate Moss quote is unfortunate. It sounds like a version of how it feels when you don't really eat..."empty" = skinny. Which is pretty close to how you rationalize avoiding food in an ED.

Plus, it's just not true. Food has a pleasurable function, as well as being necessary to live. It's okay to eat because you like how it tastes, or it makes you feel good, or because you want to. Those are all component of "normal" eating. It's when anything gets compulsive that there's a problem.

Also, if your mood is dependent on your size then something is off.

I believe in Kate Moss's philosophy, even though I can't always follow it. I love food, but I love fitting into my clothes and not having a belly roll a lot more. Though the siren call of a good cheesesteak often wears me down. I just think that saying is shorthand for reminding yourself that eating only brings short term pleasure, whereas being thin and fit is ongoing pleasure (for some people). #katemoss

@TrilbyO: Eating is also necessary to live. If you can't maintain a weight without a mantra like that, or by not eating, something is not right.

To me, it sounds like what she means is feeling "empty"...not skinny. Which is definitely a component to an ED. #katemoss

@Vivien Smith-Smythe-Smith, @tiredfairy: I know that some pro-ana's use the motto too. But so does Weight Watchers. So do a lot of people who aren't anorexic. I know it has negative connotations for some people, but for just as many others it's a positive message. I respect that you don't agree with it, I just feel differently about the motto. For me, in my experience, it's helpful not harmful. And I don't think Kate has ever been anorexic (that we know of anyway), so maybe it's helpful for her too? I'm more worried by the bragging about deep fried Oreo and Snickers binges, to me that is indicative of an overeating type of ED. I mean, we all see different things in these types of posts (weight), we all have different triggers or whatever. I just don't think Kate is some kind of monster for using that phrase. #katemoss

@TrilbyO: Nobody said she was a monster- I was taking issue with your response to her comment. I think Kate Moss may have actually just been taking the piss. If you identify with it or whatevs, that's cool. My position, from someone with a history of disordered eating, is that the phrase is creepy as hell. #katemoss

Weird. My mom used that same weight loss phrase to help my dad; she wrote it on pieces of paper and taped them to the fridge and pantry.

@ILiketheWord'Pugilist': The full comment? When asked if she had a motto, Moss said essentially, 'Yes, I have a bunch,' and offered the one I quoted as an example. How is my quote reductive? It's not as if she said, 'Yes, I have a bunch,' listed fifteen platitudes, and I seized on the dumbest one. This is exactly and only and fully what Moss herself quoted as words to live by during the interview.

@LvV: I don't really see how that changes what she said at all. Sure if she'd said that her motto was: "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. Just kidding I love pizza and have a fab. body image!" then yes, only posting the first part would be disingenuous. Her motto remains the same, even if she stinks at following it, and if you are curious about the context of a quote, it's always good to click through to the article. The editors are only going to post so much of every item, how this isn't obvious, I have no idea.

Whatever, I still like Kate Moss, this is just a good reminder not to become a model, ha. #katemoss

@snugbug: I read the entire piece and I have no issue with calling Moss out on the quote. Anyone familiar whatsoever with eating disorders/pro-anorexia sites knows that's a common mantra, and repeating it as if it's some wisdom to live by is annoying. It's the motto existence that's infuriating, not necessarily Moss using it (though that doesn't help any.)

As for your disemvoweled remarks, I'd advise you to take another look at the commenting rules of this site. #katemoss

Meaning, even Kate the Great herself admits she can't adhere to the motto (at least not all the time). So apparently things DO taste as good as skinny feels (or, more likely, hunger wins out in the end).

It bothers me that Jimmy Choo does not design Jimmy Choo shoes. What happened? Does he regret selling?

Some JC shoes are very pretty but they just don't look well constructed to me.

I prefer Blahnik and Louboutin. Not that I can afford them, especially the latter. #katemoss

Choos are really, really fucking comfortable. I have never worn Louboutins though.

I remember reading an article years ago about Mellon and Choo that was not favorable to Mellon at all. It might have been in Vanity Fair.

From my friends I've heard Choos are the least comfortable.

Also, Pierre Hardy (who used to design for Louboutin before he started his own company) makes incredibly.. orthopedic heels. #katemoss
