True confessions: I have actually worn the mary-kateandashley makeup. They made a really kick ass gold metallic eye shadow pencil that I used to rock in high school. #zoekravitz
@Zombie Ms. Skittles: I still have a couple of their eyeshadows. I've had them for years and should probably toss them, but now it's like they're a relic or something ... #zoekravitz
@Zombie Ms. Skittles: I have too! I bought a bunch of it at once, like 5 years ago, because they had things packaged together and then they were buy one get one free, and they were cheap. It was good makeup, especially the lip gloss. I used everything until they were done and I still have the dark brown eyeliner.
It is a little embarrassing. One of my friends peeked in my makeup bag and was like "I didn't know you were a Mary Kate and Ashley fan" #zoekravitz
I have very strong opinions about Eileen Fisher. I worked in a boutique that sold her things when I was in college and, regardless of the "image" she's going for (fuck, it's fashion), she IS a godsend to a lot of women. If you can sell a cute pair of linen drawstring pants in XS to a 19 year old like me and dress a size 22 who is 50 and a professional, you're doing something right.
Fisher's ads feature a pretty wide range of women (ages, races and yes, sizes). She doesn't need to target the plus-size market because they already flock to her.
Also, Rosie bugs me. Does Donna Karan go for a plus size image? No. #ragtrade
@Penny: It's not my kind of style, but Eileen Fisher clothing seems to be very well made. Many of the brands catering to plus sizes seem to be very cheaply made.
If I go to a higher end department store and look at plus sizes, the style is very dowdy and matronly. There are young, plus size women who have the money to buy nice things.
@Penny: I agree about the designs -- I actually love some of Eileen Fisher's pieces. (Most of them I stole from my mum, but you know.)
However, it is true the company is consciously chasing a younger "hipper" customer -- they certainly collaborated with a Times article stating same -- and that strikes me as foolish.
And if Fisher herself said what O'Donnell reports, to her very face, that is just downright mean.
@Jenna: I agree. I'm not one to ditch good design willy nilly, but Fisher's rudeness to a happy, loyal customer tells me I shouldn't express any more gratitude to Eileen Fisher with my hard-earned money because clearly my fat behind insults her business.
Famous person talking about and wearing your clothes = great advertising. Famous person telling fans how rude and ungrateful clothing designer is = bad advertising. That's how social media works, lady. #zoekravitz
@Penny: "...And then, he's gonna make her Lady Wintour, Viscountess of 4 Times Square, and Marchioness of the Leaping Brazilians, and he'll take her as his vassal for Long Island, and then they'll all eat pizza and cupcakes." #zoekravitz
I was reading through the UK Vogue with Georgia May on the cover last night. It's literally the first time I have flipped through a magazine and felt frightfully old. #ragtrade
Maybe this was obvious to everyone else who watches Glee but I had an, "aha" moment the other night when I realized the story of Rachel and Finn is the exact same story as Elpheba in Wicked...minus the green face paint. Witch is fitting, no? #rihannaglamourmagazine
How does Michael Lohan know what prescription meds his daughter is taking since he's been famously ESTRANGED from her for years? What a famewhoreing prick. #rihannaglamourmagazine
Ah, Rihanna. I've been waiting for you to say that.
I kind of like that she hasn't decided to take the super-strong-woman advocate role in all of this. At least not yet.
She's been very honest about the complexities of these situations and the way you really feel while inside them... most women are not going to be able to immediately disown someone they loved. They're not going to be able to get their thoughts straight about the situation, or just know their strength and claim their worth right away. It's all very gray, and when it finally comes to the point where it has to stop, it's probably been going on so long that you've started to believe what your abuser has told you - that it's at least party your fault, that you need him, that it's really not that bad, that you're weak, that you're making a fuss over nothing. Having to step forward and end it is embarassing, almost like being offended at a joke that everyone else in the room thought was funny, and you just must not get it. It takes a while before you're ready to say, "No, I know that I'm right. This is not ok, and nothing you say will make it ok."
I didn't like her new single, Russian Roulette, at first. But then I realized that it didn't excuse anyone, it just communicated how it really feels in that moment without any of the romanticism and simplicity that hindsight brings. It's a painfully honest description of what it's actually like, before the triumphant recovery and the empowerment anthem. It's disturbing and upsetting, but that's what domestic violence is, and we shouldn't skip over that.
I wish that her photo hadn't been leaked. It was an invasion of her rights. But would as many people have been as outraged as they were if we hadn't seen it? I really don't know, but my guess is no. We don't want to see how deeply ugly it is, but because we never do, we don't ever take it seriously... we continue to have unrealistically high expectations of women, thinking they should be able to just deal with it, when we don't even know what it is unless we've been through it ourselves.
But unless we know what it is, more and more of us will inevitably have to go through it ourselves. Denial feeds this problem more than anything else. #rihannaglamourmagazine
OK, I never really liked Joss Stone (for no good reason, I promise!) but her quote is winning me over. Seriously, who says well-known musicians should make all that bank? #rihannaglamourmagazine
I don't mind Angelina spending $500 at Kids Gap -- she has six kids! I appreciate that she shops at a "normal" store, instead of Ma Petite Bebe Chouxfleur or whoever the hell sells those $500 onesies in In Touch. #rihannaglamourmagazine
Um, if soymilk had enough estrogen to give a man breasts, I'd be like a ZZZ cup. I *wish* making my boobs grow was that easy. Sheesh. #rihannaglamourmagazine
@onestrawplz: my husband felt that soy milk made him weepy, he said that it was so wierd but just felt off for a while; he switched to rice milk. #rihannaglamourmagazine
@Sodypop: I switched to rice milk b/c I was worried about the cancer implications w/ soy milk. My mom's a breast cancer survivor; there's no reason to chance it! #rihannaglamourmagazine
