I need to her to c'mere and join my capoeira academy, while she's on that Brazil kick. We've got an unbalanced group of acrobatics--on the whole, the men do the flashy stuff while the women stick to the basics.

(My goal is to be able to do a back handspring sooner than later. I'm getting there.)

I played soccer for ten years, until I was about 17. I am thinking about signing up for a local adult league. I miss it.

@Dr. Winston O'Boogie aka MonkeySeeMonkeyDo: Adult leagues are great. I'm in one (I also took a 10 year break). Retraining your muscles to soccer mode is hard (as in I had a total and complete inability to kick the ball), but it comes back quickly.

@Dr. Winston O'Boogie aka MonkeySeeMonkeyDo: Definitely do it! I took a little time off after playing competitive all through college but now I'm in a rec league and I LOVE it. Such a great way to get fresh air and exercise and have some healthy fun on the weekends.

If you paint a skirt over two of them, it's like you're legs are actually performing!!

That is a foul throw.

Sorry. FIFA banned them a few years ago because of the danger to the player taking the throw and the others on the pitch.

I actually saw her play over the weekend on TV. My husband and I were sitting there sort of mindlessly watching and then all of a sudden we see this girl do a flip before her throw in. We just looked at each other in shock.

I think it's awesome and it's a shame that women's sports in the US are not treated with the same respect.

@roguescholar: See, I had the same experience of catching her doing her flips with my husband too and we both had the same reaction "Well THAT was unnecessary!" Does it really even make the throw that much more powerful? Or is it just to be fancy?

I don't know soccer too well so not trying to be sassy. It just didn't make sense to me.

But I agree about the women's sports in the US (And canada)not being shown the same respect. Boo.

Interesting. I have spent a lot of time in Brazil and overall, I have always gotten the impression that while Brazilians overall are super into football, there are WAY fewer oppportunities for girls to play; people were consistently horrified thatin the US women play soccer and it is popular in elementary school. Maybe it was just the area I lived in, but it didn't seem that there were any popular women's teams that had anything even a somewhat comparable level of support that the men's teams had.
