I happen to like Jay Leno and I *gasp* have a sense of humor.

I don't get the condescending attitude on Jezebel. It's like we're all expected to have the same opinions/tastes/likes/dislikes. I wonder how many people actually like Leno or Gwyneth Paltrow or Ann Curry but are too overwhelmed by the haters to speak up.

I don't really think Leno is a bad person, but he's not funny. Conan at least tries some weird and even edgy stuff, like Tom Cruise and Fonzie dolls and the Tonight Show Tramtacular with Andy in a human-sized hamster ball. Conan has energy, while Letterman is enjoyably cranky and Craig Ferguson is nice and off-the-cuff. Jay tries so hard not to offend anyone he forgets to be funny.

I hope the numbers drop a lot. NBC is a terrible company run by terrible cheapskates. Jack Donaghy could do better than this. NBC was shitting their pants in fear of Jay leaving for another network, and while I think Conan will be fine, they done him dirty with this.

So how would his show, even if it was great, change primetime tv forever? (I'm actually wondering, not being sarcastic.) I hadn't realized his show was getting so much attention leading up to this.

I don't mind Jay Leno (though all I ever watched was headlines), but I am irritated that it's taking up time normally filled by scripted shows. I want Chuck now.

@Plate2.18: It is so much cheaper to make than a 1-hour drama. If the networks could pull that much ad revenue from a cheap variety show instead of making five different scripted dramas, they wouldn't do it anymore. Eventually most original programming would migrate to cable and the networks would go back to the old days when they had variety, and now also they'd have the reality and competition series.

Leno moving up an hour (I know they say it's not the same show, but gimme a break) won't affect my TV watching, except I can essentially write off NBC every night. That will clear some space on the DVR for Conan O'Brien, David Letterman, Graham Norton and Colin Ferguson - all of whom could talk-show-host circles around Leno and his lame jokes.

Jay Leno moving to 10 is really clogging up my Tivo. Now I've got to Tivo either Letterman or Conan every night.

A writer on a show I watch Twittered earlier this week that Jay Leno at 10 caused thousands to lose their jobs. It runs 5 nights a week in a timeslot that used to be occupied by 1 hour dramas. 5 shows out means 5 crews out at about 300 people apiece, to paraphrase her.

Whether or not the show is good, it's gotta be saving the network a lot of money.

@meritxell: I Like Chelsea Lately on E! I don't always agree with her, but she's funny and fearless, and does great interviews without any ass kissing. Plus, Perez Hilton brought her roses and she thanked him ad dropped them on the floor.

I don't understand what this show is supposed to be. Is it supposed to be The Daily Show? Is it supposed to be The Tonight Show with only one or two guests? Is it supposed to be like Ellen, but at night? What the hell is this show supposed to be?

That being said, I called my parents last night, and my father surprised me by saying, "Oh, we're watching Jay Leno at 10." I don't know if it was out of curiosity or excitement that they tuned in, but I think it was a reality check in that everyone I know is all "Ugh, the Jay Leno show, boo" but there is an audience out there, as proven by his run on the Tonight Show. People drift towards the safe and the familiar, especially in relatively scary times, I guess.
