Oh wow. I went to high school with the MySpace apartment trasher. I can't believe the story's gotten so far, the other day it was just on the local news! Apparently, she's moved across the country since she did that.
@autoclavicle: Wow. We had some girl in my graduating class who got brief news attention for shaving off all (ALL) her boyfriend's hair while he was sleeping as revenge for something. We should start a club or something...
(I am still curious as to how he slept through haveing ALL his hair shaved off. I think the sleep must have been enhanced by alcohol or some such substance.)
@acrobaticrabbit: It's just a midweek mind-fart is all. I've read the SAME PAGE of this work document like 4 times and I STILL have no idea what it says cause I cannot focus.
(Oh Jezegods, please give me back my ability to reply!)
As an criminal in Afghanistan, I for one am super happy that policewomen cannot wear guns and that extreme sexism exists. Often when caught in a crime, I merely point at her and scream "Prostitute!" By the time the confusion is resolved of who actually is the real criminal, I've already made my escape.
@Sophie (no longer) needs to study...celebrate!: I just can't understand it. Put women in a position to mediate between citizens as a legitimate law enforcement and then not arm her as you arm her male counterpart?
The woman, believed to be aged between 16 and 20 years old, was stripped naked, gagged and tied to a truck loaded with firewood which was driven to a town dump and doused with petrol before being set alight, according to witnesses who saw the act near Mount Hagen in the Western Highlands.
@morninggloria: The secret of the caiprinhia is to limit the ingestion. The rule I heard in Brazil is never drink more than 3. Then I would adjust that rule to my tolerance, which would mean I would never have more than 2.
@Lymed: When I lived in Brazil I used to go to this place where you would be near blackout after one. It was a large glass of cachaca (caipirinha) or vodka (caipiroska) or rum (caipirissima) with a bit of muddled fruit and some sugar. Basically, 8 shots and a 2 limes. God I miss that place.
I can see it now, some kid in his basement working on his science project unwittingly raises two hedgehogs with an insatiable hunger for carrots. Over the next two days Tango and Cash leave no survivors and are later found in the school cafeteria gorged on carrots.
@Sukie in the Graveyard: I think it must be because their heads are so big in relation to their bodies, but all these hedghog picture remind me of my actual baby!
@Sukie in the Graveyard: OMG. The squeeing induced by that picture just sent my dog running into the other room -- and she's deaf! Ultrasonic squeeing, that's how cute the hedgehog is.
Registering sex offenders seems to have more down than up side. Yes, the person was convicted of doing a horrible thing. And likely served time for it. That's not a license to beat them senseless.
@sportz.star: I'm so glad you said this. Yes, I understand you saw this guy talking to your daughter. I'm sure that is scary to think that your child could have been in danger unbeknownst to you.. However, I cannot see how she became an "internet heroine."
@sportz.star: Disclaimer: I certainly have no love for convicted pedophiles. But as an attorney, I have grave concerns about the idea of perpetual punishment. Slippery slope, people.
@Never_Nude: Plus, aren't most sex offenders not rapists and pedophiles? Aren't most of them idiots who were idiot teenagers who had sex with their equally idiot girl/boyfriends, teenagers who texted nude pics of themselves to other students, grade-school kids who played doctor with younger siblings, people caught flashing/streaking, had sex in the backseat of a car, solicited a prostitute, or were themselves prostitutes? I mean, I would support a registry of violent criminals, but the whole "sex offender" thing has gone waaaaaaaaay over board. I mean, it seems everybody is a sex offender nowadays.
@Athaliah: A lot of crimes fall under the "sex offense" statutes of local laws, so, in some sense, yes...
I think there needs to be more distinctions made between someone "mooning" or urinating in public, and someone exposing themselves to children. Someone who actually has physical contact with another person of an unwanted sexual nature should be dealt with under a completely different manner. Intent can be measured many ways, and contact itself is probably the most damning.
Part of the problem is also that these "notification" systems that list sex-offenders on websites, etc. - often do not detail the specifics of the conviction, charges, or even the date of the crime. This can lead to unwarranted harassment, which ultimately doesn't serve anyone. The cops end up having to arrest people who are doing their job for them, but poorly.
@sportz.star: Registering sex offenders has kept track of my step-dad who molested my sister. So I think it has a purpose. I think it might be best that only pedophiles should be registered and able to be tracked by families of the offended.
