Grandma assured Mom that it would come naturally, and all she really needed to do was put me in the general vicinity of her boobs. (Grandma was not exactly a trained lactation expert, but hey.) My mom was concerned, but did just that. Her boobs then somehow sensed the presence of a baby and proceeded to GUSH milk. As in, completely hosed me, Grandma, other Grandma (who was sitting in to see how all this worked). Milk *everywhere*. I was apparently twisting my head this way and that, trying to get some into my mouth.
Grandma then said, totally deadpan, "Hmm. Never seen that before."
Needless to say, my mom had zero problems breastfeeding.

I agree totally with your comment. I have heard similar very defensive attacks on breastfeeding and it is upsetting. As time goes on I now just tend to ignore it and do my own thing, I used to get very defensive back though.

I was just replying to her and what I had to say had to do with her comment and nothing to do with you.
And my breasts aren't my "genitals", thank you very much.

After working a while in this field, I can spot a breast fed baby a mile away. They are usually the gloriously chubby cherubs that have the biggest smiles!

" I give and receive love in equal quantities"
Suddenly you remember the things you need- maybe your vitamins etc.and Get a big water bottle so you have water all the time. Best of luck !

Yes, breast pumps are not cheap, but formula is also hideously expensive. You can expect to pay $2000 in a year for formula, because you need it for a full year- the baby doesn't go completely onto solid food for about a year.
This is an example of how parenthood IN GENERAL is very expensive and not supported by the structure of our society. Being poor just exacerbates an already financially difficult time.

Also pumping at work isn't milk for the baby it's so that your breasts don't g et painful engourged and you can keep the volume of milk you produce high. You'd dump most that you pump at work.

I also got pissed when someone said giving him bottles made him "too lazy to nurse." I prefer to think of him as smart and efficient.
