I love how Amber Valetta's shows off the perfect combination of the dress and her amazing figure. It's like a mythical segue between sparkle and her. If my body looked anything like that, I would wear that dress every day. In a variety of colors.

love marion cotillard! and loved her entire look.

the rest of this list is meh. pictures 10, 9, and 1 especially. just nothing particularly special about the dresses so i can't figure out why they're on a best list. shouldn't this list feature dresses/looks that were actually stand out and special?

@kate!: I was about to say, "where was Marion Cotillard?" when she appeared. I agree with Cynthia Nixon, and Anna Wintour, but I wouldn't call Natalie Portman a bestie. The dress overwhelms her.

Sutton Foster is wearing a boring, ill-fitting blah of a dress. Props to her for the lack of wrinkles and all, but no.

The rest are good, but at least three of them - Marion Cotillard, Erin O'Connor, and Noemie Lenoir - are dependent on being worn by exactly those women and no one else. On anyone else those dress would look by turns bizarre, deranged or schlumpy.

When I was little, I thought I'd be wearing a version of Amber Valetta's dress every night when I grew up, and that I'd be a professional cheerleader/doctor/home wrecking beauty queen.

(In a side note, this is very nearly my favorite dress here. If I can't have it, can I just hug Kseniya all night?)

But I do think that Cynthia Nixon looked fantastic in that dress. It was a combination of the dress, her coloring, her hair and the accessories. Hard to say it was 'the dress' although the complete package was beautiful.

@Cookie Dough Monster: no more Vogue for me in the New Year. I'll be reading it at the hair salon. The succession of PhotoShopped B-list celebs on the cover is what did it for me. I want Vogue to lead, not acquiese.

A bit of a random list, but I appreciate not seeing run-of-the-mill starlets.

Natalie, I will take that dress, please. Highlights the skinny legs while allowing full access to the bread basket at dinner. Ideal!
