    You know, defining a fetus as a human child and giving it equal rights doesn't have to preclude abortions. Think about it. If we treat a 'baby' the same at -3 months, at -6 months, at 1 minute, at 1 month at 1 year... that doesn't mean the mother has to give up her organs and blood supply to ensure it's survival. Organ donation is voluntary, even for mothers. If you were to structure an abortion as 'early delivery' due to the fact that the mother 'rescinds her permission' for the use of her organs by the child in question. It's up to that child to breathe on it's own the same way children older than 9 months have to. Wait, you say it can't? Well how is that any different from a child who needs a kidney and can't survive without one? You can't force a mom to give up her kidney to a dying child, you can't force her to give up her uterus and a third of her blood supply either.

    Even my Catholic Republican mom is voting against this one. She said the Catholic Diocese in CO is also against this. Seriously taking things too far.

    The more I learn about other parts of the world, the more I wish people who look outside their borders just a little bit. Take the example of Japan - until fairly recently, the pill was illegal to prescribe for contraceptive purposes. Result? Abortions are far more common in Japan, where it's still deeply socially unacceptable to have children out of wedlock. Surely if you think abortion is abhorrent, you'd give people easier access to birth control.


    Then again, attitudes towards these issues in Japan are pretty different. Non-Christian country and all.

    I'm confused. If the government's main role is to protect their citizens, and if a fertilized egg is a human - then it is also a citizen. That means you can claim that fertilized egg as a dependent but you also have to get that egg a social security number and a name. The fertilized egg has to be fingerprinted and logged in the system then right?


    So what happens if that fertilized egg doesn't completely grab hold and there is a miscarriage? Is the woman now under the scrutiny of an investigation to determine if she willfully caused the miscarriage or if her negligence resulted in the miscarriage?


    Talk about a slippery slope straight to hell!

    The only think I 'like' about Burton's proposition is that at least she is honest in that she is upfront that the goal is to outlaw birth control, medical research, science, etc. and also abortion.


    Most of the pro-life organizations have the same goals but they are sneaky about it. I don't understand how the repubs, who are so 'gov. get out of my life', can turn around and campaign for gov. getting to say when and how couples and women decide to start a family.
