    The Koalas are my favorite at the San Diego Zoo, even though they sleep 90% of the time, they are fascinating. But last Saturday a mother and daughter were awake! And the baby was eating a ton of eucalyptus! And as the mother began to climb up the tree, the little one started to cling to her back, but then the mother changed her mind and went back to sleep and the baby went back to devouring leaves.

    @HanaMaru: Whenever the boyfriend and I go to the SD Zoo (which is a lot because we are members), I NEVER see a koala awake. Sadness is my life. All the koalas were tuckered out when I was there two weeks ago Monday.

    This reminds me of my second favorite animal,the noble squirrel. I've seen them on hot days, laying on tree branches, arms/legs akimbo, just like this. I wish I had squirrels and koalas as pets. They are cute *and* dangerous. The best possible combination. That sweet, dusty fur, big shiny eyes, and skin-flaying claws.

    That's the tallest koala I've ever seen (not that I've seen many koalas). If koalas wore clothes that one could be a supermodel.

    Koalas. File next to panda bears & dolphins as animals that look cuddly & benevolent but will seriously jack you up if you get anywhere near them.


    I know of what I speak - I'm dictating this post to my friend Lisa on account of having temporarily lost use of my hands (thanks pandas!). Lisa also doubles as a sexual assault therapist (that was the dolphins).

    "Koala" is like the Batisignal for Mafalda Para Presidente. My favorite stuffed animal when I was a kid was a blue koala that was also a puppet, you could stick your hand through the bottom and move its arms and head.
