We're not usually the type to defend evangelical Christians, especially the hyper-hormonal melodramatic theater camp attention whore types who use God to sell marriage books and diet books and their own batshit cult of personality that commands five figure speaker fees, even as they publicly preach that women should be submissive to their husbands because that's what the Bible says. And yes that would be Juanita Bynum. She's huge in the South, which means we'd probably never know about her if her Bishop husband had not taken it upon himself to violently attack her in a hotel parking lot and forced her to become an unlikely advocate for domestic violence victims. And a sudden lightning rod for nondenominational hateration!

But Tom Joyner, the syndicated radio talk show host, did not let her off the hook so easily: "If you're a prophet," Mr. Joyner asked, "didn't you see this coming?"

Oh, HA HA.

That quote comes from a skeptical New York Times story that was a little tough for us to take, and not because we are a band of PC feminazis who can't enjoy a good domestic violence joke. But hey: this country has a storied tradition of idolizing narcissists for pretty much everything that happens to them, especially when they figure out how to turn themselves into idols while simultaneously preaching about the dangers of worshiping false idols, so whatever, that's a given. But when something happens that humanizes a narcissist, that enables her followers to sit up and recognize that nasty shit happens to everyone, and maybe it's time to try and change that, it's, like, a good thing. Not a sign from God, but you know, Jesus Christ; it's not like the woman is speaking out on behalf of breast augmentation here. Give her a rest.
