    No love for Angela Davis here. Davis supported the Rev. Jim Jones's and his allegations that there was a capitalist conspiracy to destroy the People's Temple. Wonder how she felt when all those people drank the Kool-Aid.

    @magstheaxe: Well, to be fair, he did have some good ideas but they were overwhelmed by his craziness and egotism. (Pro integration but still crazy and sexist, and had double standards. First Whites to adopt a Black child in Indiana, but then the whole suicide and murder thing.) I doubt she supported the mass suicide. I think her good has outweighed any negatives in her life. And since everyone is talking about him because of the movie out, Harvey Milk supported Jim Jones as well. Not living at that time, I think it's harder to not judge people who supported him since we know how terribly it ended.

    I was lucky enough to hear Angela Davis give an address at a regional conference for GLBT college students last year. I'm embarrassed to say I didn't know who she exactly was at the time, but now I definitely do. The woman is beyond amazing.

    RE: Beyonce playing Angela Davis in an Angela Davis movie: CANNOT happen. I've been lucky enough to work with this amazing woman while in grad school and the very thought of Beyonce taking on that role makes me puke a little in my mouth.


    There is a petition circulating to prevent this! (The Beyonce as Angela Davis casting, not me throwing up in my mouth. Although if you prevent the first, I suppose the second will follow).

    I love, love, love Kara Walker! I was introduced to her work about five years ago and was instantly amazed by her silhouette images and video installations. She is so awesome and I am so happy that she is now getting the attention and respect that she deserves.
