I love Obama doing the bro hug (clasp hands, touch shoulders, slap the back). It's so fratty. Still not as cool as the Terrorist Fist Bump.
The concert was awesome :) I watched the whole thing. Renee Fleming made me choke up and I even liked Garth Brooks. He took off his hat like a gentleman.
@hummingpenguin: Me, too. I sang along in my living room during "Shout." I figure it's kind of like I was at a wedding reception with the entire country. Good times.
Looking at these I just imagine that the celebrities all lined up in a row to greet Obama, and he just made his way down... while regular people got to stand behind them. I know it's not true, but I can't help imagining it that way.
Have I told you about how I MET BARACK OBAMA? He was in Des Moines during the caucuses. I went to see him with my mom. We wormed our way up to the stage after his speech... and just as I asked if I could get a picture, THE CAMERA DIED! WHAT THE FUCK! However, I have these things to console me... 1) My mom got a nice picture of me fighting through the crowd with him like 10 feet away 2) He put his hand on my shoulder and told me that I needed to volunteer for him and that if he came back he would make sure I got a picture. never happened, but hey, at least I've got the memories?
@annewithaneee is colder than a...: I don't live in Iowa right now (college) but dsm is my other home. and you should SEE my collection of me-with-politicians-at-caucus-time photos. My non-Iowa friends are so jealous.
I missed the concert yesterday, but on NPR this morning I heard a clip of Jamie Foxx doing an Obama impersonation that was HILARIOUS. Must.go.to.UTube.
I don't know why, but even a 'serious' Steve Carrell is funny. He's great.
But yeah, I loved seeing celebs be beneath someone else. If only he had snubbed them..."Leave me alone! I'm just trying to enjoy a concert in peace. Ugh!"
@stacyinbean: Always loved that song (In The name Of Love), and now it had so much resonance... Bono was almost jumping out of his skin with enthusiasm. I've grown very weary with Bono and his saint act of the last years, this made me forget about all that.
Of all the famous people I've met, the only ones who left me "starstruck" were Hillary and Bill. (And maybe JFK Jr., but I was only 12.) So I like to consider myself fairly impervious to meeting super-famous people, but I have a feeling that I would be just as agog as Denzel and company were I to meet Obama. And maybe Biden, too.

Sleep
Sleep tonight
And may your dreams
Be realized
If the thunder cloud
Passes rain
So let it rain
Rain down on him
So let it be
So let it be
Sleep
Sleep tonight
And may your dreams
Be realized
If the thundercloud
Passes rain
So let it rain
Let it rain
Rain on him
