BI Guy-20 grand sounds like a pittance to have to deal with your "charm." Walking around offering to pay a woman sounds like she might not get her money's worth.
Vanessa Hudgens knows how to make something insulting seem not so insulting. Good on ya! I wouldn't be able to deal with all those kids loosing their minds all the time.
As for Charlyne Yi; I knew who she was, but didn't know her name until this week and now she's everywhere. Um, yay for Asian actors getting work, boo for those of us who don't need to see the self conscious mumblings of a behoodied hipster all over the place.
I saw it today and was disappointed. It *is* too long. I love going to the movies, but I felt my attention wandering and I was checking the time a lot during the last hour.
While this film looks hilarious and adorable and like I'd heartily enjoy it, I still feel sick every time I see it since I saw this special on making it, because by "funny people" they mean "funny men, with one token girl". The only other girl is, of course, the love interest. And naturally, she's not funny.
As someone who finds Adam Sandler films unbearably awful I thought he was perfect in Punch Drunk Love. Seeing a reviewer compare this performance favourably to that makes me more likely to go see Funny People.
@nessalicious: I like his other films, but agree about Punch Drunk Love and was going to comment on that. He is wonderful in that film and it doesn't shock me that he could do it again.
I can see why it's 2 1/2 hours. Between failed stand up, fighting over The Cable Guy and canceled show after canceled show, Judd Apatow has A LOT of stuff to work out.
Unfortunately, I think people who've just seen the commercials on TV might feel slighted because, as opposed to the more revelatory trailers in the movie theaters, the commercials don't hint at the darker or at least more dramatic side of the story. Personally, I can enjoy a movie that goes in an unexpected direction, but it can put others off.
@J.D.Regent: Yeah, I'm going to see it tomorrow. Comedy Central had a "making of" type special about the film, and apparently a lot of the material came from real life events that occurred when Apatow and Sandler were roommates. I'm too intrigued to stay away.
@AJ: The weirdest thing is that there's a whole Undeclared episode in which Seth Rogen's character embarrasses himself falling over Adam Sandler. What an odd full-circle.
"I kind of don't know what she was talking about, I'm an actress reading scripts and I've seen what's out there and it's slim pickings. Judd does write great female parts."
Sadly, I think what this really means is "He is one of the least sexist writer/directors out there." Which is pretty true. I remember seeing Knocked Up and thinking how FUNNY the women were, then realizing I was comparing it to the usual dreck where they don't even get to open their mouths.
@kookla: Susan Sarandon went to Catholic University and send her diploma back in pieces in the 90s, in a way of saying eff you to the Pope or something similiar.
I can respect others' views on the Pope, or Catholicism in general, but I think it was very low-class of Sarandon to disrespect Catholic University. It is one of the few religious institutions in the country that try to keep their focus on education rather than theological doctrine, and have a very good theatre program.
I lost a lot of respect for Sarandon there, and after a very uncomfortable experience with Tim Robbins a few years ago, do not trust her judgement in people.
That said, good luck to Eva- from what I've read/seen she's just as talented an actress as her mother... I just hope she's less divisive, and more couth.
@Mmmmkay (gellin' and Jezebelin): Me too! I always thought she was treated unfairly in the press and by fans of the show, and that he was really the asshole. I feel vindicated now.

Seriously, comedy. Please work on this.

Was that really necessary, Chicago Sun-Times?

Otherwise, you're weird. Jeez, don't they teach the kiddies anything these days? Fat actors aren't any good or attractive.
