Right, so according to news sources the Thai police has requested De Vries' tapes and Van der Sloot has fled Bangkok. According to a blog he's in Koh Samui, which just, ugh! Stay safe, lovely massage girls I interviewed in Nathon five years ago!
@ejc.yippee.skippee!: I agree in part, but this motherfucker had pussy thrown him by the boatload AFTER Natalee and AFTER the first report. His Hyves profile (Dutch facebook) had him skeeving around with a lot of girls being edgy. Now if something happened to THEM that argument could be made too.
If I remember correctly, there was a theory that Natalie Holloway had been abducted and sold into the sex slave industry when she first disappeared. When Van der Sloot and the other two guys were arrested though, no one mentioned it again. I guess everyone (including me!) just figured that there was no way some teenager would be selling a girl into sexual slavery. Ugh. I can't believe no one has offed him yet.
@onlyelise: So she was probably sold to someone with an under the radar yacht and could have been killed anywhere in sailing distance of Aruba? Or possibly further away?
@baxterburgundy1: Weird. Possibly the only time in my I could ever root for Nancy Grace. In this case her penchant for going after people until they kill themselves might actually benefit humanity.
Although actually, I think tossing him in jail would do more good.
Big shot lawyer says conspiracy to commit this particular crime is illegal both in Thailand and in The Netherlands.
I hope the Thai get to him first. Their prisons are much less pleasant and their sentences much tougher.
Also, echo! Echo! But no matter.
Oh hey, the fact that De Vries' involvement means that technically there was never any intent to actually traffick might cause trouble in the legal process.
Some guys from De Vries' undercover team went to Thailand posing as sex club owners. Joran promises them some girls. Shit goes wrong (because the girls aren't interested), but he still promises them that things will go ahead as planned, and that he'll send them five girls.
As soon as they're back in Holland the previews for the show already air!
Joran tells the undercover people via MSN that things will still go ahead as scheduled, but he wants to wait until the show's been aired and the drama dies off.
Ahhh, here we go! Initiating human trafficking is illegal in Thailand at least.
Also, Joran said on MSN that he wants to send a Thai after De Vries, to teach him a lesson, no matter what the cost.
De Vries calls Joran, he says that he hasn't done anything and that De Vries initiated everything.
You know, for the longest time I wasn't sure about what had happened between Joran and Natalee. Even after his "confession" I thought it was quite possible he didn't want her dead, per se, that perhaps he'd just fucked up horribly. It would still be unforgivable that he didn't come forward, but still.
But now, with this stuff going on, I am feeling quite sure that he is a sociopath.
Ah! The women are laughing in his face when he tells them they'd have to dance (that's the cover) 10 hours a day.
OMG, the girls don't want to, because they're still in school and can't go to The Netherlands right now, and he's INDIGNANT that they didn't tell him that before.
@ocd soundsystem: I was thinking more along the lines of John Clark from all the Tom Clancy books, before being recruited to the CIA he went on a one man killing spree against pimps.
I'm watching right now and UGH he is so incredibly repulsive. So far it's mostly been MSN chat stuff, talking about how he can arrange "the really hot pure ones, but that'll take longer, but the others [that would be over 18s] would be much easier to arrange".
It's clear he's not a pro (yet) in this, he's just trying to make a quick buck over the backs of these women. I mean, he doesn't even talk of taking their passports away. Beginner! (Yes, um, sarcasm, hi!)
It's so weird, I don't think his father has all that much power, really. He did in Aruba, but things are kinda different here.
I know the guy who tipped off De Vries went to the police first, but they said they couldn't do anything because no crime had been committed yet (which was true). I'm not sure why this wasn't passed along to some sort of taskforce.
Peter de Vries is definitely the go-to guy for people who know stuff but can't be helped by the police.
Is this definitely illegal in the Netherlands? Don't get me wrong, it's all sorts of gross and skeevy, but isn't it possible that the 10,000 euros is a "finders fee" for finding prostitutes and helping them emigrate to the Netherlands, where prostitution is legal?
That being said, I would certainly suppose that 300(dollars or euros?) is well below the Dutch minimum wage, assuming there is one.
Anyway, I know nothing of Dutch law, I'm just positing one reason this Vries character might be showing the video to the public, not the police: perhaps his actions are reprehensible but not illegal.
@Antrack: It's considered human trafficking, which is definitely illegal. The "news" programme which is on after the De Vries show is already asking if there is now enough evidence to arrest him. So I don't know yet, but there is illegality going on, for sure.
@maude_flanders: The father is a complete asshole bastard. I've seen several interviews, and ugh...
