It's a shame you couldn't mention that the most exciting thing about Looking To Get Out is that it is Hal Ashby's 'lost' film; he directed Shampoo, Harold & Maude, Coming Home, The Last Detail, and Being There. All masterpieces. I like to think readers of Jezebel would find this fact more interesting than a 5-y-o Angelina Jolie, unlike most of the herd. Maybe I'm wrong.
While he was alive, I assume there may have been questions as to the legality of his arrangement. Now that he's gone, I'm sure people are just trying to find a stable home for the children. And given the people with whom he was often surrounded, that looks like a difficult task.
They're his children and by all accounts he was a very good father. Why does paternity matter? The media shitstorm is really, really sad. I almost wish Speidi would do some obnoxious shit just to knock Michael Jackson's affairs off the front of the gossip pages.
@Devonna: So I was up all night last night (this is pathetic, but I haven't been sleeping well since the news broke) and I was watching the BET awards afterparty, and Jamie Foxx said something along the lines of "Really, the media doesn't shape anything about how people think. Because for the last decade the media's been saying 'He's crazy, he's a child molestor, he's an awful man,' and yet when those tickets went on sale he sold 750,000 in TWO HOURS. The media doesn't mean shit." And it's a good point. After the newsdump is over this week, what are we going to remember? The paternity questions, the drug allegations? Or "The Way You Make Me Feel"?
I think it'll be the latter. And I think 90% of the people mourning right now couldn't care less about his private life. They just love him, and they want to celebrate their love.
So what if Lady Gaga missed a TakeThat concert. TakeThat still owes my high school a concert from 1996. We collected the most canned goods in the state damnit! Our reward was supposed to be TakeThat! Stupid Robbie Williams going solo. (actually, as my high school was in New Jersey we didn't care about TakeThat, we just really wanted to help out local food pantry).
Amber, I really do love you, but it sounds like you've been reading a lot of Neil Gaiman. That's not a bad thing! You may also want to read his advice about writing original stuff, too.
Well, it appears to be absolutely no one's fault at all that this exploited man with priceless talent surrounded by grifters died at the age of 50. Case closed!
I love Amber Benson, and basically anyone who was ever on Buffy. There is a good chance I may pick up her book, though just going by the plot summary it doesn't sound like something I'd usually go for.
I knew Michael Jackson personally and he would tell me... Well that's not true. I never met the guy. But hey he's dead and cannot be libelled, so here's my chance to make a fast buck off his corpse.
I mean this whole story is sad, and it's so woven together with our cannibalistic celebrity culture, that i'm going to move on before it becomes Nighthawk Smash and I get banned.

I hope the fate of Michael Jackson stops people mocking Madonna's efforts to ensure she is 100% fit when she too tackles ardous tours, given that she is the same age as MJ.
@Rare Affinity: I'd never really given her much credit, but she really is amazing. As was the 58-year-old Bruce Springsteen at Glasto on Saturday _ I only saw it on telly, but he ran up and down those stairs without missing a note. And he does three hour shows most times he performs. What a contrast to Damon Albarn, who, while lovely, seemed to be panting every time he had to walk up and down the stage last night - and he's only about 40, I think.
I really, really wish that Janet Jackson could get custody of the Jackson kids. Let's take a look at the other contenders:
1. Debbie Rowe: birth mother, but she has had minimal contact with them and wants minimal contact with them.
2. Katherine Jackson: grandmother, 79 years old and married to Joe Jackson.
3. Joe Jackson: the most abusive and evil bastard to walk this earth.
4. Grace Rwandananda: the nanny, has a long term relationship with the kids but was fired by MJ and just sold a story about his drug abuse to the tabloids.
@Scout 3.0: I read somewhere that their Godparents are Elizabeth Taylor and Macaulay Culkin. At this point either of them would be a better choice, IMO.
What about Michael's other siblings? Obviously LaToya is a nutcase, and Jermaine has his own custody issues going on, but what about his other brothers? Surely at least one of them is mentally and financially sound enough to take care of his children.
@kaiwhakamarie: @Scout 3.0: I'm pretty sure Rowe is only the biological mother of two of the kids? Apparently the media seems to know who the actual sperm donor for all the kids is, I heard a woman saying it is 'well known in the industry' on the news the other day. They were saying he might come out and take them all so they aren't split up.
@kaiwhakamarie: The only sibs he was on good terms with were Janet and Jermaine. They were also the only siblings who had a semblance of success as independent artists and didn't need to rely on him as much financially. Every single one of his other sibs (Rebe, Jackie, Tito, Marlon, LaToya, Randy) attempted solo careers but failed. The Jackson family lived on the wealth of Michael and when that started to dry up a few years ago, Janet stepped in to help. Sadly, there is a history of infidelities and abuse amongst the families of these sibs. And even a questionable death in the case of Tito's ex-wife.
It seems as though Janet is really the best one to take care of them, emotionally and financially; but in the family dynamic she is very weak as she is the youngest child. And, she may not want them. And, she would have to go against her mother Katherine, who does want them.
@Scout 3.0: That sounds like an awful situation all around. I didn't realize a lot of that about his family. That makes me feel even sorrier for Michael (and Janet/Jermaine, as well).
Her appearance at the BET awards was very, very sad.
@kaiwhakamarie: Is it wrong that I kind of want Macauley and Elizabeth to move in together and raise the children. On camera. So I can watch. It can be on TLC . . .
Gabrielle Anwar, and everyone else, can we please put an end to the whole "males and females are different species" trope? This is the kind of thinking that gets women 70 cents on the dollar and that "let 'em come to you" dating-advice douchebag Hortense posted about over the weekend. We are all humans, thankyouverymuch.
@gangey: Yeah, the whole "different species" thing was the biggest beef I had with her statement (though I know many a couple who seem to be defying her logic and happily doing so as well, but that's neither here nor there).
@wednesdayam: My husband and I have been happily cohabitating for 4 years now, and haven't found it to be a physical impossibility. But, different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Lenny Kravitz = awesome dad. I don't even like the man's music, but that quote is sweet and normal... it made my morning.
