I would complain harder about their sexist double-standard, but frankly I'm just happy that their solution to making her fit in with the "colors of Africa" wasn't putting her in blackface.
I met HC this summer (I worked at a movie theater near where she lives.) And while I was overwhelmed with admiration and freaking out over how to tell her how much I look up to her without the secret service thinking I was a stalking threat - I did notice that she looked lovely and elegant. She was not in a pant suit, just simple khaki pants, a blue sweater and matching jewlery that made he eyes look fantastic. She is a beautiful lady - but more importantly she is brilliant compassionate and wise.
Also, anyone else notice that the amount a president ages in a term gets hardly 2 articles written about it but Secretary Clinton - who was a very involved first lady for 8 years, then a senator, then a presidential canidate, and now secretary of state (and is in her 60s) gets constant comments on her wrinkles? I call bullshit. #hillaryclintonvogue
Ugh. Maybe if Vogue was able to get a deep, interesting article looking into Hillary Clinton's actions and presence in the White House, I'd be more interested in the magazine and less likely to brush it off in favor of Harper's Bazaar. But, as it stands, Vogue has to have some mention of makeup--any at all! oh god, she wears powder!!--thrown into the mix. #hillaryclintonvogue
Vogue has moments of occasional depth. They are rare, and not worth subscribing, but moments. Most of these moments do NOT involve Anna Wintour. #hillaryclintonvogue
Anna Wintour, DO NOT MAKE ME DEFEND HILLARY CLINTON.
You are forcing me to come to the defense of Clinton, and I do not like it one bit.
Imagine if either Obama or Bill Clinton were scrutinized on this level about their appearance. Oh, he's wearing the flag pin today. That's interesting. Glad to know he's still patriotic. But are those gray hairs? Has Obama been smoking too much? His teeth aren't as sparkly white as I'm use to. Someone should get him into more of a tapered pant leg.
See? It feels artificial and weird. It makes you want to shout, "Shut up and fix the economy!" #hillaryclintonvogue
I have absolutely zero doubt that had she done the initial shoot, she would have been criticized for spending time caring about fashion instead of real issues or somesuch nonsense. Damned if she did, damned if she didn't. #hillaryclintonvogue
@curiousgeorgiana: Wow, you're a grad student and you wear actual clothes? I'm impressed! I, my friend, am wearing pyjamas. It's 8.30pm and I'm attired in the exact same thing I was wearing when I woke up, though I have included a bra in the daytime ensemble. I have also been sitting on this same couch, under the same blanket, for about a week now. Deadlines. #hillaryclintonvogue
I can't find the source for this right now but I am pretty sure HRC wears pantsuits because she has an issue with her leg... like a deep vein thrombosis or a scar as a result of that. Anybody know where that's from? #hillaryclintonvogue
@Nancy Sin: Well according to www.nohillaryclinton.com, it's because she has cankles, is ugly, and shouldn't be allowed to be seen in public, much less be seen in a skirt.
I'm willing to cut Vogue some slack for their insistence on talking about fashion in every article, no matter how flippant it may seem - it is a fashion magazine, after all. I don't read Guns and Ammo, but I'm fairly certain that they try to include some mention of Guns and/or Ammo in every one of their articles. #hillaryclintonvogue
@Minabee: I agree, to a point. Not all articles in Vogue include points on fashion. Honestly, I hardly read the articles any longer. I might read this one, though. #hillaryclintonvogue
@Minabee: That's true, but in this case ... I mean, if all they care about is fashion, as is their right especially since they are a fashion mag, why do an article about Clinton at all, someone who clearly doesn't care that much about it and who is far more important in the world in other ways? That's what gets me. #hillaryclintonvogue
@HarpMadness: I just read the article, it was actually very good. It didn't really focus too much on fashion, but more on Hillary the person and Hillary the diplomat. I think Hillary fans will enjoy reading it. #hillaryclintonvogue
As a patriotic American, I fully expect the Secretary of State to put their full attention toward fashion above all other issues. Hillary not spending hours and hours flipping through W and Vogue and Style.com's fashion slide shows to pick up tips is damaging to our country, to the free market and retail business, and above all else, it hurts the troops. #hillaryclintonvogue
Also, I'm only posting this because I think far too much has been implied in the media in the other direction, but Clinton is a VERY attractive woman. It's like the media assumes she's not because she doesn't wear tall leather boots and skirts all the time. #hillaryclintonvogue
@HarpMadness: And it was only last year that she had "the" trenchcoat. I still love that coat. I agree that she has aged well, had a little discreet work done but sometimes looks tired when she's just done a three day tour of 15 countries. I admire her looks and at a few years younger than she wished I could look as good.
As far as pantsuits go they are convenient and you don't have to worry about accidents that leave photos of the back of your skirt tucked into your pantyhose. And Oscar de la Renta for the high quality of those pantsuits because the quality of her clothes counts when she's meeting people as Secretary of State.
I admire her in every way and more than before wish she were pres. #hillaryclintonvogue
@HarpMadness: my bf is absolutely crazy for hillary and thinks she's the hottest woman alive (other than me, of course). she's not really my type, but her brains are pretty damn sexy.
also: i like fashion, but if our secretary of state was a man, would we be asking why he's always wearing the same damn black suit/white shirt/red/blue tie? if obama shows up to the oval office wearing purple on purple, then hillary might think about stepping up her game a little. until then, don't our leaders have more important things to do? #hillaryclintonvogue
Thanks Vogue, but I actually prefer that my Secretary of State cares less about fashion than your editors. I firmly believe HRC cares more about the US's political relationship with China, Israel, Iran and any other foreign nation than you do. As it should be. #hillaryclintonvogue
I don't think a publication like Vogue can seriously entertain the idea that some people don't care about fashion. They think that those who are not a slave to it are simply too poor or too ugly (or whatever) to pull it off, but they all would if they could. It's comical. #hillaryclintonvogue
@HarpMadness: This! They really seem to believe that caring about clothes is an inherent part of being female and that those of us who don't care have a kind of learning disability. It is pretty funny. #hillaryclintonvogue

This woman is the Secretary of State. She should get a giant pass for everything that doesn't involve her job. #hillaryclintonvogue
