Mechanized rag dolls.
I love you, Elijah Wood.
When I go see 9, I will cheer for the mechanized rag dolls.
And everyone in the theatre will hate me for going "YAY mechanized rag dolls!" every time they do something awesome.
@BadenBaden: This actually happened in real life! The parents were arrested for kidnapping, the daughter wanted nothing to do with them, and she got married to her fiance. Yeah, it was a real laugh riot! Link to the story below: [www.msnbc.msn.com]
@Sputnik_Sweetheart: I think the 24,660 results on Etsy, largely for clothing, jewelry and other items that can be assembled for a 'look'...would evidence to the contrary.
"Steampunk is a sub-genre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of "the path not taken" of such technology as dirigibles, analog computers, or digital mechanical computers (such as Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine); these frequently are presented in an idealized light, or with a presumption of functionality."
@OK_NiceLegs (formerly: thevickinator): Steampunk is first and foremost a literary sub-genre. And frankly a lot of those listings on Ebay are mislabeled as "Steampunk"-- many people use (incorrectly) the terms "Goth" and "Steampunk" interchangeably. Trust.
@Sputnik_Sweetheart: So, I see where you're coming from - but 'goth' refered first to a tribe of people and then to an architectural style. Doesn't mean it's not also a look.
@Sunny Bundy: I was actually having this conversation with some friends the other day. There is some frustration among fans of the steampunk genre that the Steampunk-inspired fashion/jewelry, decor, etc. has overshadowed the literature to the point that some people don't know there is anything more to it than a "look." Some people are upset because SteamCon doesn't even have any book vendors. As I mentioned above, many things that are labeled "steampunk" aren't. Do an Etsy search for steampunk and you'll get Twilight inspired items. A steampunk Ebay search will come up with, along with the goggles and Victorian dresses, pin-up girl stuff.
I am a fan of the steampunk-themed stuff, as well, but as a fan of the books, it drives me nuts when people only describe it as a "look."
@Sputnik_Sweetheart: This doesn't make any sense to me. We refer to things as being a _____ look all the time - it doesn't mean that ______ doesn't also describe a time, place, movement, genre, racial group, mental state, or what have you. Beatnik, Victorian, brainy, happy, Renaissance, punk, etc., etc.
@Sputnik_Sweetheart: Yeah, I don't wear anything that could be considered steampunk and yet, I would consider myself a huge fan of the genre.
That being said, I don't have a big problem with associating a particular look with steampunk, as long as thoughtful and informed homage is paid to the origins of the genre. Afterall, there is a pretty definite aesthetic associated even with the literature. I feel the same way about cyberpunk.
I am sick in bed wearing some cheap old jammies from Target. And yet...
I am better dressed than Lindsay Lohan, whom I suspect is healthy and wearing over a $1,000 in tore-up clothing in that picture.
Michael Jackson's skin lightening cream what type of cream can give the skin the vampire like tone for so many years???
Debbie Rowe is one "tough looking" woman..I mean she scares me..why is she always at Dr. Kleins office, last time I saw her skin it was red, irritated and blotchy. Debbie needs to make a statement about all these so called "babies daddies" coming out of the woodwork. Those kids are OBVIOUSLY of mixed heritage, their coloring etc. why is that not being mentiond??
I am so sick of Lindsey Lohan, how in the world is she making any money??
Does Lindsay not realize she's seriously a jewel thief? Like, they make Muppet Movies about "capers" who steal jewels. Jewel thief is pretty much up there with serial killer.
@ericacartman: Do I think LL has some major problems and that she may have arranged this robbery for when there happened to be $2 million in jewels in her safe? Yes.
Do I think it's reasonable to say that stealing jewelry, a property crime, is "pretty much up there with serial killer"? No.
@Breamworthy: She obviously meant it in the sense of how often movies are made about jewel thieves. Do you honestly think ericacartman equates serial murder to property theft, or were you just happy to have something to be self-righteous about? I really hate how often commenters here deliberately misinterpret people just so they can show off how "correct" they are.
@Kajj: Oh please. That's not how it reads to me. Anyhow, if I were deliberately misinterpreting and being pissy, I would have written a rebuttal about how capers can't steal jewels because they're just little pickled flower buds waiting for some smoked salmon.

Next month: Lady Gaga appears at grandmother's birthday in wearing a high-cut latex bodysuit and a come-hither look.
December: Lady Gaga hands out gifts to orphans wearing a high-cut latex bodysuit and a come-hither look.
Years from now: Lady Gaga is married at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. The bride wore a high-cut latex bodysuit and a come-hither look.

A Disney movie where two parents DON'T TRUST THEIR DAUGHTER ENOUGH to "let" her marry the man of her choice so they KIDNAP her?
So the higher-ups at Disney sat around and okayed this movie? Really?
