I saw a phone interview with him on ABC2's breakfast show. He seemed to be somewhat cognisant of what got him the award in the first place.
I think it came down to an awards-night "boo-off" sudden death with the Channel 9 bigwig who declared that lady TV newscasters had to possess fuckability, and that teh menz should handle the 'proper' news.
I was intrigued as to how the awards got the name the Ernies. So here you go:
It is named after Ernie Ecob, who was known for his sexist remarks. One of his best-known remarks was "Women aren't welcome in the shearing sheds. They're only after the sex," which is why there is a sheep on top of the Gold Ernie. The inaugural awards night was in celebration of him resigning from the Labor Council of New South Wales.
@mepo: He's right though. Whenever I lurk around in shearing sheds, I really am only after the sex. Of course I pretend I am looking for some high quality yarn, but then I seduce those poor innocent lambs.

But something tells me that's not really the worst display of sexism Australia's seen this year.

Also, is sexism considered a positive attribute there, or are these awards more along the lines of the Razzies?
