Silly gays, thinking we're going to be getting rights and stuff under an Obama administration just because he said "gay" in a couple of speeches. *sigh* My post-election euphoria sure didn't last long.
@will_this_dissertation_ever_en...?!: I think he's genuinely committed to reversing Don't Ask Don't Tell, and the question is when, not if. It seems like there's a feeling that if he tries to rush through it in the first few months, it will not end well for a policy change or for his working relationship with the military. Obama generally has a good handle on issues of political timing.
@ceejeemcbeegee: Indeed. My partner and I totally want our next glorious Prez to use an Obamamobile. Before now I never felt so frightened for a president. How sad is that?
@Rose.Selavy.Needs.A.Drink: Not sad, that is practical. My department interviewed a candidate for assistant professor and he did this really interesting presentation on the relationship between Secret Service and the POTUS. He made some great points about perception and projection of power of the Secret Service within a democratic government, but during the entire presentation, I just couldn't stop thinking that now more than ever, Obama needs incredibly tight protection.
@Crabby Cakes wants some Dance Biscuits.: Yeah, I often felt like the bourbon out acted old Fred in being itself. But maybe there is a call for more grumpy old conservatives on tv today.
@hellodarling!: HAHA i instantly did the mental math on how long id need to get preg, have a behbeh, wait for them to be of schooling age, move to Long Island.... to get my child in a school called Barack Obama Elementary.
Regarding the bailout, the auto CEO's have a lot of gall asking for money after flying there in their PRIVATE JETS at a reported cost of approximatley $20,000 per. Is there no shame? At least they got a bitch slapping from senators:
@TheCatlady: Ridiculous and wasteful of both money and fuel, to be sure. Yet it adds up to a mere fraction of the amount AIG has spent on upscale retreats for high-ups after receiving more than $100 Billion in pure bailout, not a bridge loan like the auto guys are asking for, don't have to payback, taxpayer money. So, you know, could be worse, could be a pheasant hunt.
Oh lord...if things keep swinging this way (and sweet lord, I hope they do!), does that mean that we're going to have to put up with middle-class, straight, white conservatives talking about how "oppressed" they are for the next four-eight years? I mean, it's a price I'm willing to pay in exchange for, say, being treated like a full citizen of this country, but jesus shit, it's going to be annoying.
@DixieCaverns: Oh, it doesn't matter how things are swinging, they were going to whine regardless. They had already started even before the election. Not only are they unaccustomed to not getting exactly what they want, they have a remarkable ability to shift blame. They take credit for everything good and everything bad is someone else's fault Note how during the Bush administration, they blamed Clinton for 6 full years, then Congress -- despite their inability to get anything passed -- for the last two. And Limbaugh is somehow already blaming the recession on Obama. It's really a remarkable skill, that level of denial. So, since nothing is their fault, it's totally unfair that they aren't still in charge, since they are still under the impression their philosophy is the only valid one.
