God, I hope she's slowly poisoning him with cyanide, a la Flowers in the Attic, and the reason why she doesn't call him out is 'cuz she doesn't want to be a suspect.
@snark_shark: I'm pretty sure she was about 15 seconds away from shanking him, for real. Did you see the look on her face? She hates him. Not that anyone could blame her. I'd probably freak the hell out.
On a show last December, Papa Zbig said to Joe "You know, you have such a stunningly superficial knowledge of what went on (in the Bush admin) that it's almost embarrassing listening to you." Yeah, a stunningly superficial knowledge of everything.
remember when he had that temper tantrum when Shuster disagreed with him about the repubs b.s. re Iraq withdrawal? She had to be "peace maker" during that.
@bluebears: Thanks for this. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw this post. Soooo uncomfortable. She deserves a medal for sitting next to his smug self.
@mfnher: ugh. when he called out Shuster for SLEEPING THROUGH HIS ALARM?? I'm sure everyone on that panel knows that if they really press him he'll embarrass them.
@bluebears: I think he's too stupid to know what he means
I find it amusing for another reason, though, because if the wife is standing outside probate court, well ... she doesn't have to worry too much anymore about what he's gonna say next.
@bluebears: He's using the fancy word "probate" to make himself look smarter than he is, and actually ends up looking dumber by indirectly revealing that he doesn't know that probate court is where wills are proved. It's sort of like the email I received from Yelp about brewpubs today that referred to "the penultimate pour." Now I know where to get my second-to-last beer, I suppose.
It's easy to turn a blind eye to something oppressive when you stand to immediately benefit from it and it's a pain in the ass to rock the boat.
Not everyone's has the guts to call their co-workers or boss' shenanigans. Every time I see Morning Joe, I think of those millions of conversations where I kept my mouth shut or witnessed others keeping their mouths shut because it wasn't worth the headache to make waves. I almost wish she'd just own that fact. If I spent all day calling people on their oppressive shit I would get absolutely nothing done.
And for the record, I've seen her call Joe and company of their crap on occasion. Does shit fly by her on the regular? Absolutely. But I'd like to think she's got some internal "worth it/not worth it" monitor.
@Trulymadlyme: Sadly, I think you hit the nail on the head. I am an outspoken feminist, but I can think of a million things I've let slip in the interest of just making my life easier.
@HeatherNumber1: I call it the "this is not the hill you want to die on" philosophy. Every day, when my colleagues complain about some corporate crap that comes down the pike and protest and yell, I offer them the reasoning I use when the men I work with drive me up a wall with their sexist comments: "Is this the hill you want to die on? If it's not, then let it go."
It has saved my sanity on many an occasion. I take a deep breath and let it go. Live to fight another day.
She is a stronger woman than I. If I had to work with these douchebags you'd all be hearing about how some crazed feminist went axe happy at her place of work before doing herself in (axe to the brain).
My husband tortures me with morning joe each morning and part of the reason (not the biggest part but still a part) I cant stand it is Mika. I'm sure she's a nice person but she preens for the camera all of the time and is constantly checking herself out on the monitors. It never surprises me that they dont listen to her.
Mika has Stockholm Syndrome. And, she can't really say anything anyway. She's outnumbered, and it'll be a cold day in hell before any of the men take a stand against sexism.
I think she means "You can't take it too seriously because you have bills to pay and you have to do your job and count the days until your contract's up while totally regretting the day you signed a binding contract that put you in a chair next to these douchebags who the network obviously won't control because they think misogyny is just so whatevs."
I have never really listened to Joe Scarborough before. How can anyone stand to watch that pointless stammering for more than 30 seconds at a time? Feel free to let me know if this wasn't a good example of how he usually seems.
@CupcakeMonster: He's a mixed bag. He's right of center, to be sure, and has occasional pointless outbursts. But he will often play devil's advocate (to either side) to advance a conversation on his show. He's really a moderate who thinks he is a conservative. Sometimes he and Mika trade off, with him assuming the Con and her assuming the Lib positions. It's tough to tell what he really thinks sometimes, which is what a show host should do. He keeps it moving and makes sure all sides are heard.
Morning Joe is actually a pretty good show. You usually get all sides of an argument, even if Joe or Mika has to pretend in order to get there.
And no, he doesn't usually stammer. The problem is that they are on for three hours straight, going over the same stories. They are usually their best in the first hour. After that, they sometimes struggle to make the same material appear fresh. They will even reverse sides of the argument, trying to start a new conversation on the same 4 news stories they are following for the morning. What you see really depends upon which hour you chose to watch.

This show seems pretty vapid compared to the rest of the stuff I watch on MSNBC. I'm glad I don't watch it.
