<![CDATA[ Boys Gone Wilding II ]]> More details pertaining to the arrest of a Girls Gone Wild staffer for sexual assault have been released. Matthew O'Sullivan, the boss of a GGW video crew, met the 20-year-old victim inside a tavern and asked her to come to a party on the GGW bus, where he allegedly pulled off her shorts and underwear and then kept his fingers in hands around her throat to keep her from running out. The girl was able to break free when her friends saw her struggling behind a curtain and then helped her flag down the police. The police arrested O'Sullivan after he locked himself in the GGW bus but eventually surrendered to the cops. Charming! [NY Post]

<![CDATA[ Blackmail Gone Wild: Joe Francis's Scary Brush With Crime, Before He Was A Criminal ]]> About 4 years ago, Joe Francis was on the receiving end of a crime that involved his being videotaped in a sexually explicit manner without his consent (or signed release form). His house was broken into, and when Francis returned home, a masked man was waiting there for him. The man bound and gagged Francis, stole a bunch of valuables, then pulled Francis's pants down, strategically placed a dildo by his ass, and forced Francis to say, in various "corny and creepy" ways that Francis was gay. The masked man — who later turned out to be (sexy) Hollywood conman Darnell Riley — then tried to blackmail Francis for up to $500,000 for the tape. And he would've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for Paris Hilton, who was also being blackmailed by Riley. (She was the idiot who befriended him and introduced him to her social circle to begin with.) With Paris's help, police were able to arrest Riley, who copped a plea and is currently serving 8 years in prison for robbery and extortion. The irony is that he'll probably be a free man in a few years while Francis will likely be serving his term on tax evasion charges. The clip explaining the case, from VH1's documentary Hollywood Blackmail, is above.

<![CDATA[ Sheriff Charged With Raping, Sodomizing & Bribing Female Prisoners ]]> burgess041808.jpgAn Oklahoma Sheriff is being accused of running his own version of Girls Gone Wild in prison: On Wednesday, Mike Burgess, the top officer in Custer County — 90 miles outside Oklahoma City — was arrested for, among other charges, forcing female prisoners to "engage in wet T-shirt contests and offering cigarettes to those who would flash their breasts," reports the AP. Burgess's T-shirt contests weren't his only alleged misconducts: A federal lawsuit against him includes "14 counts of second-degree rape, seven counts of forcible oral sodomy and five counts of bribery by a public official." Other dastardly deeds attributed to the asshole: telling a drug court participant he would send to jail if she didn't give him sexual favors; giving a prisoner a coveted "jail trusty" job after she performed a sex act on him, then taking the position away when she would no longer service him, and telling a third woman he would get her brother released from jail if she did him.

This kind of abuse of power, of course, is nothing new. (We saw something similar earlier this year when immigration official Isaac Baichu who asked a Colombian woman for oral sex in exchange for her green card.) And for now, Burgess is out on $50,000 bail, although, if he's convicted of all the charges he currently faces, he will get a sentence of 467 years in prison. <![CDATA[ In Defense Of Joe Francis (Sort Of) ]]> Don't get me wrong, Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis is a douche nozzle. He has a lot of idiot friends (Tara Reid, Paris Hilton), he's bristling with entitlement, and probably worst of all, he's under the assumption that his brand of objectification is merely the observation of women's sexual liberation. But people shouldn't have to go to jail just because we aren't fans of them or their work. Joe's legal problems have been going on for years, a lot of which has been at the hands of the Justice Department's Obscenity Prosecution Task Force. Here's the thing about that: The government doesn't give a fuck that drunk girls are flashing their tits for frat guys to jerk off to. They care that they don't get a cut of the action it's bringing in. (Stuff like firearms, tobacco, and alcohol all have hefty government taxes.) The business of sex is a lucrative one, and the Obscenity Task Force was formed to catch smut peddlers on shit like sloppy record keeping, in order to fine them or seize their assets. "It's terrifying, honestly," Vivid Alt's Eon McKai* told us. "It's a bit like a witch hunt."

Do you know how open to interpretation "obscenity" is to that task force? Anything remotely sexual as far as nudity goes, could be considered obscene without a clear definition, because obscenity is so fucking subjective. Joe's violations have to do with "Project Safe Childhood," which looks to protect children from being the subjects of pornography. And while it's come to light that he has featured girls under the age of 18 on his DVDs, it was more because the girls lied to be on camera, and not because he's some kiddie porn producer.

A lot of people (me) hold the opinion that going after porno in the name of protecting children is only the first step to an eventual free for all attack of the porn industry as a whole based solely on content and what some suit considers "obscene."

"Obscenity laws give the government far reaching powers to fuck with all of us," says McKai. "So it's no laughing matter."

The real issue here is that people like Joe and Max Hardcore are super high profile and super wealthy. The government is way more interested in that than the fact that a couple of girls have some regrets about what they did when they were on spring break, only because their little brother saw them on an infomercial in the middle of the night. George Bush and his ilk are not Captains Save a Ho. It's always about money.

*Eon's new movie The Doll Underground was released today.

<![CDATA[ Dear Florida Governor Charlie Crist, If You Can't Charge Joe Francis With Hate Speech, Here's An Idea ]]> GQfeature7v.jpgJoel Stein's story about the jailbound Joe Francis in the April GQ begins with Joe remembering the first time they met one another, six years ago; God it was great. They'd been in the Girls Gone Wild tour bus, watching the crew tape some chick on a bunk bed. Joe had told Joel to fill a Mike's Hard Lemonade bottle with water, and the girl poured it on her tits and shoved the neck of the bottle in her pussy, and sometime around then her cell phone rang. The number, she said, was her boyfriend's. So Joe Francis flipped it open gleefully — you can almost see him doing it — and announced his identity and that he was watching the caller's girlfriend shove a Mike's Hard Lemonade up her vagina. "His eyes went manic," Joel recalls of the moment, and no doubt they went manic again in fond memory of the event, because now he is in jail, although we can't seem to get rid of him, as evidenced by his charming statements touting his footage of famed Spitzer hooker Ashley Dupre at the tender age of 17: "Our footage is from when she was 18-years-old, and it doesn't get much better than that. Eliot Spitzer has put some miles on that girl!" But wait, the depressing part is here:

All the local Florida papers and Web sites are clogged with ads telling people to visit Meetjoefrancis.com, where they are directed to write a letter to Florida governor Charlie Crist, who has been so bombarded that he called Francis's lawyer and said he'd look into the case.
They have been bombarded because MeetJoeFrancis has a form that, with the mere addition of one's name and email address, will send this email to Charlie Crist's office:
Dear Florida Governor Charlie Crist, Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum & the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE):

As a citizen who cares deeply about due process and justice in our country, I am very concerned about the set of circumstances surrounding Joe Francis' criminal charges and incarceration without bail. At the very least there is the appearance of wide spread [sic] misconduct by public officials, including possible illegal acts enacted by officials such as State Attorney Steve Meadows in an effort to put Mr. Francis in jail and deprive him of his rights.

My concern in this matter is neither an approval nor disapproval of Girls Gone Wild as a lifestyle brand, but rather a concern that Florida public officials are using their own personal beliefs in order to selectively prosecute someone whom they disagree with.

For this reason I urge you to call upon the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to conduct an impartial investigation of the events surrounding the charges that have been brought against Joe Francis - both criminal and civil, beginning in 2003 and continuing into the present - and the forced civil settlement so that the public officials in Bay County will either be exonerated from any taint of impropriety, or be held accountable for any misdeeds.

Okay, Governor Charlie Crist, here is all we really have to say on this matter: I don't need to know your proclivities or personal beliefs, your feelings about whores or the moral degradation or the one's First Amendment Rights, but as a woman, I read about Joe Francis and begin to feel lightheaded and short of breath, as if someone is trying to choke me with my own bile. Is it possible what Joe Francis does might qualify not as pornography, but as hate speech? Please, especially if your eyes glaze over at the sort of casual misogyny with which he and so many others — many, I'm sure in your state — disdain the compliant young tartlets like Ashley Dupre, give some consideration to this quote:
Francis says jail is totally different from what he'd expected from movies. He's seen only one fight and hasn't heard of any sexual assaults. "Nothing will ever happen to me in jail. I'm a god. I'm the cool Girls Gone Wild guy. I'm revered. I'm a rock star," he says. Still, he avoids the other inmates, often going a week without talking to one. "The one thing I fear is one of these fucking people showing up at my house. I'm a different class. They're dumb. They're the people you see on Cops. Those are the people you see in jail."
And direct your assistant to set a special spam filter to catch all these mindless auto-petitions, so you can collect each and every one of emails used to send one and spam them in reply with, fuck, Barack Obama's speech. The past isn't dead and buried, in fact, it isn't even past. The only thing that is in the past is my tolerance for this motherfucker.
