    Lagerfeld is right. See, one time I was walking the streets of LA, minding my own business, when a pack of red bandana wearing minks jumped me. They blew smoke in my face and shoved me in the dirt and called me a "ho." Even now I'm tearing up about it. Some nice people came to my aid and now I wear that pretty pack of minks when it's cold to remind myself what's important in life. Who's laughing now, homeys? Who's laughing now?!

    I can't read the article about retailers because I don't want to subscribe, but of course the effects will take longer to show. Selling at a deep discount is not nearly as damaging as a shitload of inventory you can't unload. That is a major deficit and I am sure many, many retailers are dealing with that problem right now. Expect lighter assortments in 2009/10.

    @Penny Plastic (Archetype): Have you noticed that no one is considering the possibility that a lot of people just don't want any more shit in their houses? I keep waiting for this to come up, but it never does. My place is crammed full. It needs serious decrapification. We can't live like this. We're not exactly swimming in cash, but the real reason I'm not buying anything is that no one can show me anything unique enough, at the right price, for the precious real estate that is our home.

    @alouette: Hell, there's an entire STORE filled with knock-offs not a mile from my house. No one here seems to care. The one time I entered (and was pretty shocked), the clerk practically twisted herself in knots trying to assure me that the Prada was REAL.
