According to my third source of news, the news reel in the elevator at my office, Bush signed something pledging the US troops will be removed from Iraq by 2011. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but isn't anyone else suspicious about him doing something like that at the tail end of his term, especially when 2011 is when the 2012 election year will be gearing up?

Again, I'm probably just paranoid.

Whoa, WTF happened to my comment. Like it's all cut in half.

Anyway, I think it would be totally cute if Rock's daughters and Obama's daughters had a playdate. I get all warm and fuzzy thinking about 4 little black girls playing on the White House lawn. And with a puppeh? Can't get much cuter than that.

However, I do worry that Rock's daughter's may teach Malia and Sasha some of the dirty words that they picked up from their dad's shows.

@SarahMC: I have mixed feelings about being super judge-y about people who acquire their dogs from breeders. Many breeders take excellent care of their animals and only sell puppies with spay/neuter agreements. Additionally, certain breeds of dogs have predictable traits that serve specific purposes. The behavior of mutts is more difficult to predict.

I'm not saying that everyone should buy from a breeder (my family adopts all of its animals, and I have my very own abandoned kitteh), but sometimes, it makes sense. For Joe Biden's purposes, it might. We don't know what he was looking for.

@funnyface: Another misconception people have is that shelter dogs all have long, mysterious histories. A lot of homeless pregnant dogs have their puppies in rescues/shelters (or, more typically, foster owners' homes). You can get ANY kind of dog, of any age, from a shelter.

@SarahMC: I support dog shelters completely, however I think it is a bit facile to say that you can get any kind of dog (with a perfect mental health history to boot) at a shelter. Let alone a shelter nearby. Because, let me tell you, I have about combed the shelters clean looking for a submissive, but relaxed male dog (I'm not insisting on a puppy) of smallish stature. As much as I hate to think of any dog being put down, that does not mean that conscientious breeders are the devil. Some people need the predictability of size, coat and temperment that a purebreed dog offers. BTW, this is not to say that many purebreed dogs aren't completely bonkers. I guess I am just for choice and less judgment.

@westvillagegirl (exiled in chicago): I'm confused as to what the trouble is. Figure out which breed(s) you're interested in, and do a search for breed-specific rescues. Or go on petfinder.com. The foster moms/dads know the dogs' personalities and can help you find what you're looking for.
A purebred dog is not a guarantee of temperment, btw. They tend to have more health problems, too.
I'm not trying to be a bitch but I've heard every excuse in the book and they are all nonsense.
