i sort of sit on the outside and think most models are 'better than me' for being prettier, skinnier, etc but i wonder if there is an whole other divide within the modeling community of higher paid/lower paid models. now there's your reality show - rich model, poor model. of course, both classes would have the same meal budget of $10/week.
...dropping $100 on cabs to take you to and from a job that's gonna pay $200 (after your agency's cut, when you get paid in three months, if other expenses your agency assesses in the meantime don't eat it up entirely)...
Egads! I assumed that photographs = bank! and that all models used $100 dollar bills to roll cigarettes that are then lit with $20 dollar bills. I knew that it could be tough to be a model, but man! That sounds terrifying.
@lilbobbytables: Modeling and stripping are share one interesting characteristic: the ability to make money greatly varies and the overhead for working is directly passed onto the models/dancers in fees.
Jeeze UrbanOutfitters you could of at least changed the name is little more. Its kind of sad because as of right now, knock-offs are out of my price range.
Urban Outfitters is so shameless. I'm not sure why but it annoys me much more when they rip off fashion designers than when those at Forever 21 do it. Maybe because the product is still so expensive?
@Shannon: That, and people shopping at Forever 21 seem to have a pretty even-toned view of themselves: young, hoping-to-be-trendy, not-rich. On the other side, give a hipster a croptop from Urban Outfitters and they act like they invented 90s fashion.
@AmyGee: I don't know if that particular compaign donation is true, but the people who own Urban Outfitters (and all its sister stores) are very conservative and donated extensively to McCain. Some people act shocked by this, but most owners of large conglomerates are. It's just capitalism in action.
Right, Robin Givhan, because what we need right now are more people distracting politicians/those involved in politics with shallow attacks on their appearances. (*cough* Laura Ingraham *cough cough*)
As the economy dries up before our eyes, and little children don't have health insurance, and the earth is melting, it's comforting to know Ms. Wintour is sticking up for what's truly important.
@AthertonMerriweather: I've definitely become spoiled by the levelheadedness of this group, I've even found myself upset at moms on my mommy board for their comments lately. I have to remind myself that to some, Perez pretty much rules the world.
@devilchyld22: @prestocaro love/hates her kettlebell: Cheaters! This is what happens when you stray from Jezebel. Your eyes get burned by "FIRSTS!" and "Go eat a sammich!" It's a scary world out there...
I knew Lauren Conrad was in trouble when her stuff kept showing up on hautelook.com. Honestly, it's pretty boring and overpriced for the quality of the work (which is generally unforgivable), but as "basics," I thought some of her dresses were kinda cute. Also, she picked out some sweet prints. So, RIP LC's clothing line.
@megscissorhands: I think they would've sold well at a lower price point, like the juniors section at Macy's. The teens that watch The Hills would've been lining up at the door.
OK, does anyone here understand Jessica Joffe? I'd never heard of her until a silly Norwich Notes piece in Vogue and I understand I'm supposed to find her It-Girlish...
Dear sweet Lord: if this show is anything like Models, Inc., I will be watching it back to back with all my Tivo'ed episodes of Drag Race. Accchhh...Pleasure overload!! Also...Am I misremembering, or did Models Inc. end after a story arc involving the agency being turned into Hookers Inc.? All I know is my best friend and I acted this out with our Barbies, who toted around Pez dispensers full of "uppers."
Also, as Plum should well know, truly posh English people wear ratty, ancient, baggy tweed and a taffeta frock they bought for their first hunt ball and aren't interested in replacing.
Plum was particularly poisonous to a friend of mine, who happens to be a friend of hers from wayyyy back. I care not for the turds that drop from her mouth.
And as for Gwyneth thinking that "English people" sit around in ball gowns. Um, has she no self awareness? At all? Not even a little bit?
Duhhhhh Vogue isnt supposed to be about NORMAL people. That would ruin its whole charm. If I wanted to read about NORMAL people, I'd pick up a Lucky or a Marie Claire or some bullshit.
@amowls: right, because lucky and marie claire are so realistic and down to earth? huh, guess i was dreaming all the 100 dollar pairs of jeans they push in Lucky. anyway the point wasn't "vogue isn't fulfilling its mission" the point is vogue is trying to look like its keeping up with the times and failing ridiculously.

A. That'll buy you maybe one container of sliced fruit at Whole Foods.
B. Way to generalize/judge the entire modeling industry.

I've actually tried to read some of Perez's comments before, and it's almost as if they are speaking a different language. It's so strange to me.
I'm just sitting there going "COMO?"
