Ah!! I watched the O'Reilly Factor tonight. After bitching that the media is focusing too much on MJ, O'Reilly spent the next 40 minutes trying to tear MJ down. His first guest (the black PhD they always cart out on Fox whenever they are talking/bitching about black people) reminded him that several years ago O'Reilly said people should be respectful of Jerry Falwell for a few weeks after he died, and not call Falwell out on his racism. The guest then went on to say that perhaps along the same lines it isn't tasteful to question MJ's impact on the African-American community on the day of his memorial service. O'Reilly's response? "That's like comparing apples to oranges." Oh really O'Reilly? Did you mean to say, "that's like comparing white people to black people"? God I hate him so much.
And yeah, of course, the media in general is going overboard with the MJ coverage, but then why do must Fox then devote so much time to bitching about how much time the media is spending on the coverage?! That is even more overkill! And when O'Reilly was done hating on MJ, he turned to the more pressing issues of the day- reading Sarah Palin's body language.
And later Bethenny Frankel was on Hannity which was really annoying. Favorite line from Hannity regarding Palin: "Well, the message that the libruhls and the media are sending to women is- don't go into politics, or we'll attack you. This is really bad for women in politics, women won't want to go into politics now."
I was at my aunt's nursing her sick kitty, but she has blocked MSNBC and CNN, so I was stuck watching Fox News or Parental Control.
Am I the only one who finds it ironic that these two women give Jackson a hard time for coloring his skin, when they've obviously both bleached the hell out of their hair to make themselves look as Arian as humanly possible?
In reality, those two women are probably both Italian, or Turkish or something.
I like the way Bill says something like, "Hey, Huddy actually read something! Good for you, Huddy!" I was waiting for him to pat her on the head or something.
This is totally the racist version of, "why do lesbians like women who look like MEN?" Men are for straights! Mitts off! What, do these people want to claim Michael for the white race or something? What are they on about? Who are these Doublemint Twins Leni Riefenstahl models?
This is the closest I've ever come to agreeing with O'Reilly. Like, I haven't been able to figure out why he is considered the first cross-over artist. Ummmm...Little Richard? I am interested in how different communities are taking this different ways. While I would have preferred a bit more depth I have to say that at least Fox was taking the story in a different direction.
@whateverwilbewillbe: crossover because MTV was afraid to play black music, and MJ's record company actually had to threaten to pull their other artist from MTV if they continued to refuse to play him.
@meg9: But seriously, FIRST? Uh, if not Little Richard, how about Jimi freakin' Hendrix? (Who, by the way, was played on MTV long before MJ was.)
And btw, his record company got MTV to play him by assuring them that he *wasn't* "black music". So, you know, take that for whatever it's worth.
I'm with whateverwilbewillbe - this is not a conservative/liberal issue. I'm as hardcore liberal as they come but I can neither excuse MJ's obvious pedophilia, nor his drug use, nor his plain old crappy music. The guy could dance, I'll give him that, but I really don't see how that warrants all this attention. And there is just something creepy about celebrating the life of a guy who freely admitted to bedding children and saw nothing wrong with it.
I'm actually pretty smart. Skipped a grade, high IQ, graduate degree...I have no idea what they're talking about. I don't want to listen to it again, though.
@Trulymadlyme: Maybe you've just been lucky. I get called before the Council on Blackness several times a year. Now I just keep the reapplication forms on hand and send them in preemptively every time I listen to a Jimmy Buffet song or kiss a white boy.
